Katie Jones, a rising star from Dumbleton Cricket Club, has been named in the 100 wildcard selections for the Southern Brave, marking yet another milestone in her remarkable year.

Katie’s 2024 has been a whirlwind of achievements. Earlier this year, she showcased her talent on the international stage by being selected for the U19s Tri-Series in Sri Lanka, where she also captained one of the games. Her leadership and cricketing skills coming to the forefront, solidifying her reputation as a promising young cricketer.

In addition to her international experience, Katie secured her second summer contract with Western Storm. Balancing her cricket career with her academic responsibilities, she impressively juggled these commitments while preparing for and completing her A-levels. This dedication to both her sport and her studies underscores her exceptional work ethic and determination.

Katie’s selection for the Southern Brave brings her the extraordinary opportunity to work under one of England’s most successful players and coaches, Charlotte Edwards. The chance to learn from Edwards, whose contributions to the game are legendary, is a dream come true for any young cricketer.

Reflecting on the moment she received the news; Katie shared her excitement:

“The phone call from Lottie was so unexpected. Having just finished my A-levels and taking a small break from cricket to focus on them, it was one of the last things on my mind. I am so grateful and excited to pursue this opportunity and work alongside the likes of Lottie. The experience will be invaluable, and I can’t wait to get started!”

As a county, we are incredibly proud of Katie and her pursuit of excellence. Her achievements are a testament to her hard work, talent, and perseverance. Gloucestershire, Dumbleton Cricket Club, her team mates and the wider cricketing community will be cheering her on as she embarks on this exciting new chapter with Southern Brave.

Laura Charles-Price Head of Women and Girls Cricket and Pathway Lead spoke of the exciting news:
