Aston Ingham and Dumbleton through in Village Knock Out

ASTON Ingham and Dumbleton are both through to the last 16 of the Voneus Village Cup after holding their nerve for narrow away victories in the first national round.

Dumbleton, the 2022 champions, racked up 258-7 after winning the toss at Dafen Welfare, of Llanelli, captain Ross Martin top scoring on 82 and fellow opener Lewis Rollinson adding 56.

The home side then appeared to have their noses in front at 217-6, but Myles Holland grabbed the crucial wicket of Gary Phillips for 102 en route to figures of 3-46 while there were also three wickets each for Ollie Horne and Aaron Tomson.

It was even tighter at Pelsall where Aston Ingham closed out a nine-run triumph. Opener Oliver Henson led the way with 57 in a challenge of 204-8 before Anthony James, who has been such a key performer all summer, grabbed 4-33 from eight in a tight finish.

Hoping to join them in the next round are Painswick who travel to Wembdon on Sunday.

GLOUCESTER AIW are through to the second round of the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Trophy thanks to a battling three-wicket victory away to Golden Hill 2nds.

The Bristol side were bowled out for 116, Romesh Tenuwera top scoring on 48 as Sekandar Maroofkhel grabbed 3-27 from six.

And the visitors then recovered from 24-3 to close out the win, Uzair Bhaiyat hitting 29. GAIW will now be away to Lydney.

Also through are Downend 2nds who recorded a 23-run derby win away to Frenchay, opener Joe Dryell hitting 57 before Joe Tolman claimed 5-30 from eight. Downend’s reward is a trip to Apperley.

Four ties, meanwhile, are scheduled for Sunday (30th) in the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Cup.

Bedminster host Hatherley & Reddings, Chipping Sodbury welcome Bourton Vale, Rockhampton will be home to Langford and Stroud entertain Knowle.

FROCESTER put their disappointing league form to one side to defeat Gloucester and then Painswick to qualify for WEPL’s T20 finals day on July 14.

Bikram Kumar Das walloped an unbeaten 105 off only 65 (11 fours, five sixes) to pave the way for a 62-run home triumph over Gloucester.

And superb work from the bowlers then ensured a low scoring two-run success over Painswick, Hamza Shahzad capturing 3-9 from nine balls, Angus Catto 2-2 from one over and Louis Sabbagh-Holt 2-13 from four.

They will be joined at finals day by Bristol who overcame Golden Hill by 74 runs and then Bedminster by 66 runs.

Skipper Louie Shaw was in terrific form against Bedminster, crashing an unbeaten 109 off only 57 balls (nine fours, seven sixes) after earlier claiming 3-14 from four overs of left-arm spin against Golden Hill.

Completing the line-up for finals day are Wiltshire qualifiers Potterne and Bridgwater, from Somerset.
