Aston Ingham and Dumbleton book head to head in Village Cup

ASTON Ingham will host Dumbleton in the quarter-finals of the Voneus Village Cup on July 21 after both clubs secured terrific victories on Sunday in the last 16.

WEPL side Dumbleton, the 2022 champions, progressed with a 20-run home triumph against Leicestershire side Kibworth.

And Aston Ingham, the current leaders of Division One in the Gloucestershire County League, went through with an 11-run success away to Loddington & Mawsley, of Kettering.

There were heroes across the board for Dumbleton who totalled 218-6 after losing the toss thanks mainly to the efforts of Myles Holland (53) along with Lewis Rollinson (47) and skipper Ross Martin at the top of the order.

Kibworth, in reply, were in good shape at 98-1 in the 20th over before the home side put the squeeze on, Rollinson capturing the key wicket of Ben Matthew for 60 en route to memorable figures of 2-18 from eight.

Dan Hammond (2-29 from five) also produced an important spell while there were two wickets for Ollie Horne as Dumbleton closed out the win to keep alive hopes of a return trip to Lord’s.

It was even tighter for Aston Ingham who, prior to this season had never reached the last 32.

The visitors had to battle all the way to total 168-8 from their 40 after winning the toss, Anthony James top scoring on 36.

Loddington & Mawsley appeared to be progressing nicely at 106-3 in the 28th before their innings fell away against the combined efforts of Toby O’Neill (3-25 from seven) and James (2-26 from eight) with Alex Gooding, Angus Bartlett and Dan Smith also capturing wickets.

Dumbleton, who qualified from the Worcestershire group, and Herefordshire & Powys representatives Aston Ingham could yet be joined in the last eight by Gloucestershire champions Painswick whose home clash against Goatacre was abandoned in the 13th over because of rain and a sodden outfield.

The two sides will try again on Sunday, this time at Goatacre.

SIX Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Cup ties are scheduled for Sunday.

Holders Bristol West Indian Phoenix face a trip to Langford while Bishopston will entertain Painswick.

Other ties: Downend v Stapleton, Bedminster v Chipping Sodbury, Cheltenham v Knowle,  Twyford House v Golden Hill.

In the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Trophy, holders Bristol Pakistanis dispatched Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds by 166 runs, Sohail Javed claiming 5-8 from four.

And Downend 2nds were seven wicket victors at Apperley, Chris Binnie compiling 52 at the top of the order.

IT’S WEPL’s T20 finals day at Bristol CC on Sunday.

A hectic day of action will get underway at 10am with the hosts taking on Frocester, followed by Bridgwater v Potterne at around 1pm.
