Week Nine Bristol & District League round-up

FRENCHAY’S bid to bounce straight back to WEPL continued apace with a seven-wicket home victory over nearest rivals Pak Bristolians in the Senior Division of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

The win made it nine from nine for Eddie Williams’ side who zoomed 44 points clear at the top of the table at the midway stage of the season.

Madu Ravichandrakumar featured heavily, taking season-best figures of 4-41 from nine as Pak Bristolians struggled to reach 209, opener Taimour Warraich top scoring on 53.

And Ravichandrakumar followed up with his second ton of the campaign, reaching 123 off 96 (20 fours, two sixes) to help Frenchay ease to the points with almost four overs to spare.

Winterbourne, also hoping for a quick return to WEPL following relegation, are up to second with a seven-wicket victory away to Cleeve who were skittled for only 101.

Corey Kislingbury led the way with 4-18 from seven before Winterbourne needed less than 21 overs to wrap up the spoils.

Bristol Pakistanis are now third following a five-wicket victory away to Coalpit Heath where Saqib Imran claimed 5-40 from seven.

Timsbury stay top of Division One despite a five-wicket reverse away to Midsomer Norton, a result that enabled Golden Hill 2nds to close the gap thanks to a 71-run home triumph against their Clevedon counterparts.

Ethan Moss hit an important 62 at seven for Golden Hill while John Colley and Tom Field followed up with three wickets each.

Brislington 2nds are off the bottom of Division Two following their first win, inflicting a first defeat on Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds who began the day in top spot. Rhys Grove reached an unbeaten 83 for Bris while Paul Southall took 3-26 from six.

Bishopston 2nds are the new leaders following an eight-wicket home triumph against fellow high-flyers Shirehampton which featured runs from Joe Wenham (56 not), Ben Herridge (55) and Richard Boroughs (49 not).

In Division Six, there was an unbroken stand of 234 for the second wicket between skipper Mike Mosses and Gloucestershire Girls U18s’ batter Prarthana Reddy for Thornbury 3rds who completed a 294-run home victory against bottom side Patchway.

Mosses finished on 153 from 81 (14 fours, ten sixes) while Reddy’s 104 off 111 featured 11 fours and one maximum. In reply, Patchway were all out for 62, Prince Rautiyal finishing with 6-7 from five overs.

Stoke Bishop, the 100 per cent Division Seven West pacesetters, romped past Wrington by 148 runs, captain Greg Crichton hitting 113.

And Bristol New Eleven made it nine from nine at the top of Division Seven North, overcoming Chipping Sodbury 3rds by 100 runs, Kapil Sharma thumping 62 and claiming 4-37 from eight.
