UNBEATEN Thornbury stormed 45 points clear at the top of WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts with a six-wicket triumph away to Painswick who started the day in second place.
The home side could muster only 154 after winning the toss, Luke Woolway top scoring on 63 as the wickets were shared by Gloucestershire’s Chris Dent (3-24), Robbie O’Donnell (2-26), Jack Worgan (2-28) and Harry Wormwell (2-33).
And opener Chris Gibson (61) then led the charge for Thornbury who are now nine from nine at the midpoint of the campaign.
Dumbleton are back up to second following a 156-run triumph at Chippenham which featured 66 from Tommy Boorman plus fine efforts in the field from Ross Martin (4-45), Ollie Horne (3-18) and Northamptonshire’s Alex Russell (3-21).
Cheltenham moved up to fifth courtesy of a seven-wicket win at Corsham, Josh Breed compiling an unbeaten 72, while Hatherley & Reddings succumbed to Avenbury by 32 runs.
In Premier One, Bishopston are up to seventh following a four-wicket triumph away to struggling Frocester while Bristol trumped Lansdown by seven wickets.
Bedminster inflicted a first defeat of the summer on Bath, Paul Muchall taking 2-40 and finishing unbeaten on 42 against his former team-mates.
Downend, the Premier Two Bristol/Somerset pacemakers, cruised in by eight wickets at Weston-super-Mare, Cani Gunaratnam bagging 5-45 from ten.
And Golden Hill remained in touch with a 58-run success at Wellington, skipper Daz Ahmed top scoring on 76 from 46.
Gloucestershire division leaders Tewkesbury crushed Corse & Staunton by 178 runs, Josh Barnes missing out on a century by just one run before three wickets apiece for Sanath Jayawardhana, Matt Stevens and Wade Ridsdale secured the spoils.
Gloucester remain second despite a 33-run setback at Chipping Sodbury for whom Jamie Wakefield took 4-45.
