Cotterill’s ton guides Glo’shire Over 60s 2nds to Vase glory

JAMES Cotterill top scored with an unbeaten century as Gloucestershire breezed past Hampshire by eight wickets to win the Over 60s’ 2nd XI Vase, at Valley End CC in Surrey.

Hampshire, who lost the toss, were restricted to 207-7 from their 40 after failing to build on a strong start thanks to fine spells from Andy Kear (2-28) and skipper Steve Pennington (1-34, both from eight).

In reply, Gloucestershire were rarely in trouble thanks to Cotterill and Tim Smith who shared a magnificent opening partnership of 134 in 22 overs.

Smith perished for 64 from 67 (ten fours, one six) but Cotterill kept going and eventually pushed the winning single in the 31st over to finish on a superb 110 not out from 94 (11 fours, four sixes) with Andy Taylor unbeaten at the other end on 20.

The result brought the curtain down on another hugely successful summer for the entire Gloucestershire Seniors section which will shortly announce details of winter net sessions.
