Emily’s 5-22 helps seal derby win for Glo’shire Girls U15s

EMILY Austen finished with fabulous figures of 5-22 from eight overs to help put Gloucestershire Girls Under-15s on course for an eight-wicket home win over Somerset and make it two from two in their ECB Group.

Somerset, who lost the toss at Chipping Sodbury, had progressed to 40-1 when Emily bowled her first victim and went on to hit the stumps four more times in an inspired spell.

There were also wickets for Taylor Hodgson, Lucy Thompson, captain Bea Willis and Jemima Smith  as the visitors’ innings slipped away to 115 all out.

Gloucestershire, in reply, always held the upper hand with opener Taylor going on to finish unbeaten on 41 off 52 (five fours) while Bea was dismissed within touching distance of the win for a fine 37 off 38 (seven fours).

Next up for Gloucestershire, who defeated Devon in their opening outing, is a home date against Wales at Chipping Sodbury on July 5.

Gloucestershire Girls Under-11 development squad, meanwhile, enjoyed two friendly victories away to Dorset.

Evie Tadman (3-7) and Eva Matthews (2-12) were the pick of the attack in the first game as Dorset were restricted to 84-8 ahead of the visitors securing a two-wicket success.

Eloise Maggs then produced a superb unbeaten 50 from 47 balls (seven fours) as Gloucestershire reached an impressive 121-3 in the second match.

Dorset this time finished 40 runs short as bowlers Evie (3-8 from four), Mia Joicey (3-9 from three) and Phoebe Dobbins (2-11) all proved difficult to handle.
