CHARLIE Garratt compiled a superb unbeaten century but it was not quite enough to inspire Dumbleton to victory in the Voneus Village Cup final at Lord’s against Foxton Granta.
The Gloucestershire side, bidding to follow up their historic triumph at cricket’s most iconic ground two years ago, proceeded to total 240-8 from their 40 after winning the toss.
But their Cambridge opponents also batted with great skill and composure to close out a seven wicket success with four overs in hand.
Garratt’s ton was a clear highlight of Dumbleton’s big day, the No Three (main image, courtesy Philip Wilcox) finishing unbeaten on 119 from 105 (six fours, seven sixes) with skipper and opener Ross Martin (34) and Myles Holland (33) also making important contributions.
Martin then gave Dumbleton the perfect start with the ball, claiming a wicket with the ninth delivery of the innings.
But that brought in Richard Kaufman who went on to share a tremendous second wicket partnership of 206 with Adam Webster that decisively turned the match in Foxton Granta’s favour.
Kaufman eventually perished for 110 while Webster won the match with a six to finish unbeaten on 97, Martin being the pick of the Dumbleton attack with figures of 1-37 from eight.
