GLOUCESTERSHIRE Girls U13s kicked off their season with useful practice against local rivals Somerset with honours even after a T20 friendly double header at Weston-super-Mare.
Tilly Chicken top scored on 26 in the first clash which went Somerset’s way, the hosts chasing down a target of 96 with seven wickets and more than four overs to spare.
But Gloucestershire roared back in the next match, restricting the hosts to 84-7, Evie Tadman capturing 2-12 and Lucy Ball 1-13, both from four.
Isla Ray (23) and captain Xanthe Bolam (20) then shared a stand of 62 to pave the way for an eight-wicket success completed with seven overs in hand.
The Under-13 Development squad, meanwhile, fought to the very end, losing out to their Somerset counterparts by five wickets with only one ball to go.
Sophie Compton (26 not) and Jasmine Johnstone (19) led Gloucestershire to a total of 123-7, and it almost proved to be enough thanks to fine team work in the field led by Beatrice Bending and Jasmine Johnstone who both finished with 1-5 from two overs.
The new WEPL Women’s Premier Division, meanwhile, continues on Sunday with a full schedule of matches, including Frenchay hosting local rivals Golden Hill.
