Gloucestershire Over 60s make it two in a row

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Over 60s made it two from two with a hard-earned two-wicket home win over Cornwall at Thornbury, Nick Marment contributing a crucial unbeaten 59.

The visitors, who had earlier totalled 220-9 from their 45 after winning the toss, appeared to have the upper hand after reducing Gloucestershire to 127-6 in the 27th.

But Phil Edge (26) and Marment steadied the innings with a stand of 74 ahead of their side wrapping up the points with nine balls to spare.

Matt Cannon, meanwhile, was the pick of the Gloucestershire attack with a return of 3-39 while there were also two wickets apiece for Razi Ahmed and Ken Earl as well as one victim for Nic Hayward.

Gloucestershire Over 60s 2nds recorded their first win of the summer, downing Devon by six wickets away at Shobrooke Park, near Crediton.

The home side reached 179-7 after winning the toss, Tim Cull capturing 2-32 from nine ahead of an opening stand of 103 between Simon Mezsaros (61) and Tim Smith (49) putting the visitors in charge.

The 3rds, though, were humbled by nine wickets away to Worcestershire after struggling to total 106, and the 4ths were edged by 20 runs at Birdlip despite the efforts of Alan Thomas (62 not) and skipper Tom Parsons (48).

Gloucestershire Over 70s, meanwhile, lost their opening outing of the summer, slipping to an 18-run reverse away to Worcestershire.

The home side had to work hard to reach 144-6 after winning the toss, Rick Carman (3-29), Tony Garton (3-41), John Turton (0-14) and Ed Shellard (0-22, all from nine) giving nothing away.

But Gloucestershire found runs even more difficult to find and finished short, England captain John Evans top scoring on 46.
