Week 11 West of England Premier League round-up

JEEWAKA Sashin was dismissed just one run short of a century and followed up with 3-21 for six as Frocester 2nds continued their improved form in WEPL’s Gloucestershire division with a 23-run home triumph against promoted Langford.

There was also 46 from Rhys Lamplugh and a return of 3-28 from Shafiq Maroofkhel for Frocester who moved up sixth to ease their relegation concerns.

Leaders Tewkesbury romped in by six wickets at home to Rockhampton, Wade Ridsdale capturing 3-11 from ten but second placed Gloucester lost ground with a 41-run home upset against Bourton Vale for whom Ollie Whiteley hit 71 and bagged 4-36.

Third placed Chipping Sodbury dispatched lowly Corse & Staunton by 213 runs, Jiwanjot Singh top scoring on 82 and Eddie Holden taking 4-35 while Charlton Kings were 40-run victors at Stroud, Matt Luxton dominating with an unbeaten 102 off 94 (12 fours, two sixes).

In Premier One, Bristol defeated bottom side Frocester by seven wickets, Louie Shaw and Tommy Probert taking three wickets apiece, but Bishopston were trumped by 115 runs at home to Taunton St Andrews.

Bedminster were the most emphatic winners of the day, crushing Potterne by 10 wickets while leaders Bath’s game at Burbage & Easton Royal was abandoned because of rain, allowing Bridgwater to take pole position courtesy of a seven-run success at Lansdown.

Downend, the Premier Two Bristol/Somerset pacesetters, won by two wickets at Ilminster, captain Callum Loud (81) and Jordan Garrett (76 not) shining.

Golden Hill are back up to fourth courtesy of a tense two-run home success against Weston-super-Mare, skipper Daz Ahmed (51) contributing crucial runs.

Leaders Thornbury wasted no time dispatching Corsham by nine wickets in Premier Two Glos/Wilts, Josh Riggs thrashing an unbeaten 50 from just 21 balls (five fours, four sixes).

Dumbleton dropped from second to fourth with a 75-run reverse at Royal Wootton Bassett, but Painswick are up to third courses of a 35-run win at Avebury which featured Jack Hobbis’ fine return of 5-16.

Cheltenham crashed to a 10-wicket home humbling against bottom side Chippenham while Hatherley & Reddings were edged by 41 runs at home to Goatacre.

Jack Weston, meanwhile, hit 47 for Bristol & North Somerset leaders Knowle who returned home with a 93-run success away to Bristol West Indian Phoenix, captain Oli Haynes claiming 4-10.

OB Westbury remain second after a home derby six-wicket win over Bristol 2nds, and Bradley Stoke stay third courtesy of a two-wicket home win against struggling Stapleton.

Bedminster 2nds saw off their Bath counterparts by five wickets, and in the final game Twyford House paced their reply nicely for a home three-wicket win over Brislington, Henry Trotman unbeaten on 84.
