Week 13 Bristol & District League round-up

THERE were three personal landmarks for Long Ashton in a commanding 202-run victory away to Winterbourne 3rds in Division Four of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

Skipper Char Haywood and James Michallat both compiled unbeaten centuries – in a strange coincidence both were unbeaten on 108 – in a total of 293-1 from 40 after Jason Hinds had earlier hit 56.

And Andy Forsyth then followed up with a memorable career-best figures of 7-14 to ensure Long Ashton remain second and in the promotion conversation with five more rounds of games to go.

Another bowler in fine form was Steve Farrow, in Division Seven North, for Alveston.

He claimed figures of 7-15, hitting the stumps six times in a six-wicket home derby win over Almondsbury 2nds.

The visitors slipped from 148-3 to 187 all out, Mudit Sharma top scoring on 79, before Syed Sadiq Rizvi led the Alveston charge with an unbeaten 123 from just 70 (18 fours, four sixes).

In the same division, Charles Walwin finished with 7-20 from eight as Coalpit Heath 2nds eased past their Hambrook counterparts by 128 runs.

In Division One, opener Ethan Moss and Simon Hygate shared a second wicket partnership of 270 for leaders Golden Hill 2nds who went on to overcome Winterbourne 2nds by 62 runs.

Moss was eventually out for 164 off 111 (27 fours, four sixes) while Hygate was unbeaten on 119 off 99 (nine fours, six sixes) as their side reached 343-3.

Winterbourne’s battling reply included 90 from Mason Lingard and 75 off only 36 by Ashley Oakes who thumped 13 fours and three sixes.

Zora Singh smashed 160 from just 101 (17 fours, eight sixes) in vain for Twyford House 2nds who went down to a last ball two-wicket reverse away to Bath 3rds in Division Two.

Madu Ravichandrakumar’s spell of 6-30 from nine took Senior Division pacesetters Frenchay to a 106-run victory away to struggling Whitchurch while 5-33 from Dan Moore helped second-placed Winterbourne complete a seven-wicket win away to Bristol Pakistanis.

In Division Three, Bitton folded from 89-2 to 131 all out as Archie Birkbeck produced a memorable spell of 6-6 from only 5.1 overs for leaders Bristol 3rds who went on to romp to an eight-wicket victory.
