Week 14 Bristol & District League round-up

JOE Black produced an outstanding individual bowling performance, claiming 7-19 from eight overs, for bottom side Stoke Gifford who cruised to an eight-wicket home win against University Staff 2nds in Division Eight North of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

The visitors were rushed out for 61 after losing the toss as Black ripped through the top order.

And his side then romped to their fourth win of the summer but remain last although they did close the gap on relegation rivals Old Down 2nds and Carsons & Mangotsfield 3rds who both lost.

Frenchay, meanwhile, are all but champions of the Senior Division thanks to a 64-run away win at Coalpit Heath which means they are now 60 points ahead of closest rivals Winterbourne who lost at home to Downend 2nds.

Openers Mike Donaldson (85) and Tom Bibby (57) laid the foundations for a challenging total of 275-5 ahead of Madu Ravichandrakumar (5-35) making Coalpit Heath toil.

Winterbourne, who were dismissed for 138 as Harry White claimed 6-21, stay second but are now just seven points ahead of Pak Bristolians who lost by 25 runs in the derby against Bristol Pakistanis for whom captain Urfan Malik took 4-24 from nine and Rahul Deshmukh 3-22 from five.

Golden Hill 2nds moved a step closer towards the Division One title with a 95-run home triumph  against lowly Hambrook, Fuzael Ahmad striking 56 while Ash Bonynge-Pearce finished with 4-36.

And at the other end of the table, Keynsham 2nds climbed out of the bottom two with a ten-wicket defeat of their Winterbourne counterparts, Freddie Eyston (90) and Syd Arblaster (64) leading the way.

Left-armer Patrick Langlais showed all his experience with three wickets for Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds in a seven-wicket Division Two victory away to Hampset.

And in Division Three, centenary-celebrating Frampton Cotterell kept their promotion hopes alive with a three-wicket home success over Bitton to remain second.

Qamar Waraich was unbeaten on exactly 100 off 72 (12 fours, one six) for Division Five pacesetters Bristol United Banks in a 108-run home victory against Timsbury 2nds.

And Stoke Bishop made it 14 from 14 at the top of Division Seven West with a 201-run home humbling of Claverham 2nds, Mark Crowther (60) and captain Greg Crichton (53) the top scorers.
