Week 17 Bristol & District League round-up

ANAS Ashfaq and opener Muhammad Saim compiled half centuries for Bristol Aces who completed a tremendous five-wicket win away to Pucklechurch to go top of Division Five in the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

The South Gloucestershire village outfit reached an imposing 259-6 after winning the toss, skipper Ryan Watts leading the charge with 116 off 91 (12 fours, five sixes).

But Aces, who started the day in second place, only two points behind pacesetters Carsons & Mangotsfield, chased down the target with 16 balls in hand.

Carsons & Mangotsfield were frustrated spectators because of the rain, away to Hanham 2nds, and now find themselves ten points behind the Aces.

But the top two clubs will meet each other on the last Saturday of the season, with Carsons holding home advantage.

Senior Division champions Frenchay’s hopes of an unbeaten campaign ended with a 65-run home setback against Hanham, Ross Robbins claiming 4-24 from nine.

Pak Bristolians moved up a place to second courtesy of a 53-run victory away to Coalpit Heath, opener Ahmed Tabraiz top scoring on 49 before brother Abdullah took 4-20 from 6.3 overs.

Bristol Pakistanis dropped to third following a four-wicket defeat away to Downend 2nds, opener Luke Coles unbeaten on 57, while Winterbourne, in fourth, lost by six runs away to bottom side Claverham.

Golden Hill 2nds clinched the Division One title thanks to a 33-run home victory against their Keynsham counterparts while in Division Two, opener Zora Singh crashed an unbeaten 103 off only 69 (13 fours, five sixes) as Twyford House, who began the day bottom, romped in by ten wickets at home to neighbours Shirehampton.

Centenary-celebrating Frampton Cotterell stay second in Division Three thanks to an 18-run home victory over Bradley Stoke 2nds, Brendan Foreman and Sam Peplow completing half centuries before Owen Onslow almost pulled the result out of the fire, thumping 97 from just 63 (eight fours, seven sixes).

Pakistani Express, in third, kept the heat on with a two-run victory away to Backwell Flax Bourton, Sohail Ahmad (65) and Sayab Zulfiqar (61) sharing an opening partnership of 105.

Golden Hill 3rds, meanwhile, continued a memorable day for the club by wrapping up the Division Six title with a nine-wicket home defeat of struggling Patchway who were skittled for 79 ahead of Joe Woodworth hitting an unbeaten 52.

Greg Crichton took 5-16 from eight overs to help pave the way for champions Stoke Bishop to make it 17 from 17 at the top of Division Seven West, easing past Portishead 2nds by nine wickets, Louis Berrow following up with an unbeaten 59.

Stoke Bishop now hope to complete a perfect campaign when they wrap up their season with a home clash against Wrington.
