Week 17 West of England Premier League review

SKIPPER Tom Hage hammered an unbeaten 121 off only 90 balls as Hatherley & Reddings emerged 70-run home victors in their home derby against Cheltenham in WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts.

Coming in at three after the loss of an early wicket, Hage smoked 13 fours and four sixes to lift his side to a challenging total of 216-3 from a rain reduced 31 overs.

And James Burton followed up with 4-32 from seven as Cheltenham faltered to 149 all out in reply.

No play at all was possible in the Chippenham-Thornbury clash while Dumbleton had reached 38-2 away to Painswick when the weather had the final word.

The race for the Premier One title hangs on the final round of games after the top four clubs all lost on a dramatic penultimate weekend while the battle to avoid relegation will also go down to the wire.

Champions Bath (251) remain in pole position despite a 10-run home reverse against Bishopston but Potterne (248), Bridgwater (247) and Bedminster (246) also have a chance of the silverware.

Two sides will drop down, and although Bishopston remain ninth after a tremendous result which owed much to Gary Booth’s 50, they now trail eighth-placed Lansdown by just 11 points.

Bottom club Frocester also kept their outside hopes alive of staying up with a 30-run home triumph against Lansdown, and that means much rests on their trip on Saturday to fellow strugglers Bishopston.

Bedminster wrap up their campaign with a home clash against Bath, Bridgwater travel to Burbage & Easton Royal, Lansdown host Bristol and Taunton St Andrews welcome Potterne.

Downend, already promoted as champions of Premier Two Bristol/Somerset, came unstuck by six wickets at Congresbury while third placed Golden Hill were three-wicket victors at Keynsham, Zaman Shafi top scoring on 53.

OB Westbury clinched a second successive promotion, beating title rivals Knowle by 64 runs in Bristol & North Somerset.

Third-placed Bristol West Indian Phoenix made it six in a row with a 13-run victory away to Brislington, captain Ashur Morrison (67) and Ricardo Williams (4-35) both starring.

Bottom side Stapleton ended a run of six successive setbacks with a three-wicket home victory against fellow strugglers Bath 2nds, Dan Byrne capturing 5-35.

Skipper Richard Trotman again led from the front with 86 for Twyford House in a 45-run win away to Bradley Stoke while Bristol 2nds emerged three-wicket victors in the derby at their Bedminster counterparts.

Tewkesbury, already promoted as champions of the Gloucestershire division, faltered by two wickets at Chipping Sodbury for whom Tom Laver crashed 79.

Relegation threatened Corse & Staunton lived to fight another day with a nine-wicket home hammering of Stroud, but Rockhampton’s relegation was confirmed with a 33-run home reverse against Bourton Vale, Lysander Tarrant and Darrel Williams both taking three wickets.

Langford saw off Gloucester by three wickets, and Charlton Kings were two-wicket home victors against Frocester 2nds, Charlie Watkins bagging 4-39.
