BROTHERS Jordan and Jake Cox put together a memorable opening stand of 229 for Bohemians 2nds who went on to record a 134-run home victory on the opening day of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League season.
The pair went on the charge in this Division Eight North clash against Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury 5ths before their partnership was ended when Jake (pictured on the left) was caught for 98 off 104 (15 fours and a six).
But Jordan reached his century and was eventually dismissed for 141 from only 99 (25 fours, three sixes) as Bohs piled up 309-6 from their 40 after losing the toss.
The visitors, in reply, slipped to 175-8, opener Jeremy Bourke hitting 54 as Jason John took 3-23 from six.
Liam Henderson hammered the highest score of the day, finishing unbeaten on 185 from 124 for Stapleton 3rds who defeated St George Valley by 43 runs in Division Seven East.
The opener smashed 16 fours and 11 sixes as his side totalled 303-4 from their 40 after winning the toss, Joe Arnott adding 59.
St George Valley made a brave attempt at the target thanks mainly to Mark Britton who followed up a return of 2-30 from six with 117 as his side came up just short.
Mark Brown’s 129 dominated the Barrow Gurney total of 286-6 which proved to be just enough in Division Four at home to University Staff for whom opener Charles Clarke hit 120 in a reply of 273-7.
In Division Six, Harry Abel was unbeaten on 134 off 73 balls (25 fours) for Stoke Bishop who trumped Timsbury 2nds by 130 runs.
And in Division Two, opener Krish Kumar’s 111 set the way for Knowle 2nds to defeat Bohemians by 206 runs, Ian Mills taking 3-15.
Opener Ben Taylor reached an unbeaten century with a single off the final delivery of the innings for Long Ashton 2nds in Division Seven West.
But a target of 186 was well within range for Old Caths who eased in by seven wickets with almost 12 overs to spare.
There was a memorable partnership in Division Seven North where Ed Denman (96) and Nick Price (91) put on an unbeaten 182 for Bishopston 2nds in a nine-wicket victory away to Bristol New Eleven.
Faizan Asif, meanwhile, took 6-22 from six for Alveston who overcame Golden Hill 5ths by nine wickets in the same division.
George Gibbs struck the stumps five times on the way to figures of 6-17 from eight for Frenchay 4ths who edged Old Down 2nds by 15 runs in Division Nine North, Peter Macdonald’s earlier return of 5-34 from eight proving to be in vain.
In the Senior Division, Coalpit Heath squeezed in by one wicket at home to Claverham.
The last wicket pair of Aaron Jones and Matt Smith put on 16 vital runs for the South Gloucestershire side.
It was a good day also for newly promoted Golden Hill 2nds who overcame relegated Stapleton by 18 runs, Fuzael Ahmed (4-11) and Andy Parkinson (4-23) shining with the ball.
Former skipper George Ford grabbed 3-26 from seven and hit 42 for Winterbourne who were 14-run winners away to Bath 2nds, captain Ben Parker top scoring for the visitors with 55.
