Highnam were on the back foot at 24-2 but not for long as Patel went on the charge, smashing 28 fours and 14 sixes to help his side rally to an imposing 362-5 from their 40 before the visitors were bowled out for 148, Steve Dean claiming 3-41 from eight.

It was a day to remember also for captain Pete Bovey whose 138 for Chalford included 16 fours and nine sixes, paving the way for a 47-run triumph in Division Nine E away to Frampton-on-Severn 3rds for whom opener Martin Clements top scored on 95.

In Nine A, meanwhile, Andy Taylor’s 131 power Parkend to 256-9 and a 109-run defeat of Westbury-on-Severn 3rds while opener Viv Menon batted all 40 overs for his unbeaten 127 as Uley saw off Frocester 4ths by 122 runs in Division Eight D.

Skipper Mehul Patel came in at seven for Barnsley Beeches and proceeded to go on the rampage with an unbeaten 124 which included 14 fours and nine sixes, setting up a 103-run defeat of South Cerney in Division Eight C.

Andy Philips was another player to bat all 40 overs, reaching an unbeaten 128 for Bourton Vale 2nds in a 54-run home Division Three defeat of Fairford.

And Uzair Salehbhai’s unbeaten 102 from 85 (14 fours, three sixes) put Gloucester AIW on the way to a 38-run defeat of Woodmancote, for whom Jason Gore claimed 5-31 from eight.

Captain Tim Dannatt was 93 not out as Corse & Staunton cruised to a nine wicket home defeat of Chipping Campden to share top spot in Division One with Cheltenham 2nds who edged Cirencester by 37 runs, Amith James shining with 4-24.

Four wickets apiece for Sam Gough and Sam Wheeler helped Kingsholm edge Tetbury by two wickets while Rockhampton secured their first win, easing past Cheltenham Civil Service by six wickets with opener Louis Warren top scoring on 87.

Tewkesbury 2nds made it three from three in Division Two with a 160-run success at Shurdington while fellow high flyers Dumbleton 2nds were seven wicket victors at Apperley and Poulton overcame Cam by five wickets, Billy Breen producing one of the spells of the day to finish with 6-25 from nine.

Westbury-on-Severn squeezed in by one wicket at Ullenwood Bharat, and Great Rissington held their nerve for a low scoring six run victory at Hatherley & Reddings 2nds for whom Shahrukh Ali and Alex Christie both took four wickets.
