Core Coach
The ECB Core Coach programme is designed to create coaches who inspire and develop players and make a difference to the game.The programme is a blend of e-learning and face-to-face modules led by ECB Coach Developers will explore the player-centred planning process, player development, the skills you can help players to develop and how you can learn from your experiences.

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead player-centred coaching sessions.
An ECB Core Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision, and is ideal for learners with previous cricket or coaching experience who are looking to coach regularly at cricket clubs or schools, or in one of our community programmes.
Who is it for?
- Anyone aged 17 and over wishing to become qualified to coach cricket, inspire and develop players and make a difference to the game.
- Experience of playing or coaching cricket is desirable but not essential when applying for this programme.
Commitment
- £400.00 – Bursaries and payment plans available
- Seven face-to-face modules lasting three hours each, including three observed coaching opportunities
- Four bite-sized e-learning modules lasting 15-20 minutes each
- Online multiple-choice questionnaire

Pre-requisite for certification
- Be 18 years of age (learners can book a place if they are 17 on the first day of the course)
- Hold a valid ECB Disclosure and Barring Service check
- Hold a valid ECB safeguarding training e.g. Safeguarding Level 2
- Successfully complete the online multiple-choice question paper achieving at least 80%
- Attend all face-to-face modules
- Be marked competent in the observed coaching sessions

Nicky Clarke / Workforce Manager
Nicky joined GCF from Somerset Cricket Foundation, where she spent 4.5 years gaining valuable experience supporting clubs and leagues, in cricket operations, and with volunteer workforce development. At GCF, Nicky is responsible for supporting the development of the people who make recreational cricket happen, covering everything from grass to game!
Nicky has spent many years supporting the WEPL Board, providing expertise in using Play-Cricket, player registration, and managed migration to clubs across the West of England. She is also a qualified coach, umpire, and scorer who has been lucky enough to score at the county ground in Taunton on a few occasions, including England Lions v South Africa in 2022.
Nicky’s home club is Weston-super-Mare, where she is a long-standing volunteer and has been integral in rebuilding the women’s and girls’ section following Covid. On the rare occasions she’s not doing something cricket related, she has two boys who prefer the social side of cricket to the playing side, she likes to read, run (slowly), and is a half-marathon survivor.
