Week Four Bristol & District League round-up

ABHIJIT Parab produced a memorable burst of 7-16 from only five overs as Old Caths 2nds stretched their 100 per cent record to four outings with a seven wicket home victory over Frampton Cotterell 3rds in Division Nine West of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

Frampton were skittled for 89 as Parab produced the best bowling figures of the season to date throughout the entire competition.

And captain Dnyanesh Karmarkar’s 42 not out at the top of the order then completed the victory in less than ten overs.

It was a memorable day also for Simon Jones who took 7-27 for St Mary Redcliffe 2nds as they dismissed Carsons & Mangotsfield 3rds for 160 in Division Eight East.

But his heroic effort proved to be in vain as Carsons completed a 47-run success.

One of the innings of the day came in Division Nine East where Sanal Omana smashed 165 off 84 (21 fours, eight sixes) for Bristol New Eleven 2nds who trumped Old Park by 207 runs.

Stapleton got off the mark in the Senior Division with a three wicket win at home to Hanham.

Opener Luke Stone’s 66 saw the visitors reach 200-9 from their 45 before Ruben Janse Van Vuuren (54) took charge, skipper Ash Birkinshaw following up a return of 3-41 with an unbeaten 37.

Uzair Khan’s unbeaten 88 from 72 helped Golden Hill 2nds to a seven-wicket victory away to their Downend counterparts while Cleeve overcame Winterbourne by 28 runs.

Greg Welsher took 5-12 from 5.2 overs for Old Down who dismissed Bishopston 2nds for 175 in Division Two.

But Bish fought hard for an eight-run win despite Welsher top scoring on 42, Ed Marshall, Dilupa Chandrasekara and Tom Andrews each taking three wickets.

Long Ashton saw off neighbours Backwell Flax Bourton by 61 runs in Division Three, captain Char Haywood unbeaten on 86 and Rishiv Vij taking 4-32 from eight.

And in Division Four, captain Mark Brown’s third century in three innings could not save Barrow Gurney from a one wicket reverse away to Carsons & Mangotsfield.

Brown ended the innings unbeaten on 108 from 114 (14 fours, two sixes) as the visitors reached a total of 227-5 from their 40 after losing the toss.

George Sutton (83) and Kieran Gallagher (54) then gave the Carsons reply impetus only for Frank Forge (4-33) to bring Barrow Gurney back into contention.

But the last wicket pair of Craig Woodland (17) and Will Thatcher (10) held their nerve to bank the points for Carsons.

Opener Mike Mosses batted all 40 overs for his 125 not out from 113 (20 fours) to help Thornbury 3rds reach 232-5 at home to Golden Hill 4ths in Division Six.

But Pat O’Regan responded with an unbeaten 100 off 99 (12 fours) to see Golden Hill to the points with more than six overs to spare.
