Fairford won a thriller by one wicket in Division Three of the Gloucestershire League, squeezing home with nine balls remaining against Chipping Sodbury. It was their first win in the league this season, and it came after Chipping Sodbury had made 228-8 with Thomas Febry top-scoring with 57.
New-ball bowler William Bowers took 4-36 and, batting at three, he followed up with 82 from 59 deliveries as Fairford looked on course for a comfortable win. Opener Jay Goddard made 62, but none of their other batsmen reached double figures, and it needed a last wicket partnership of 11 between Lewis Drabwell and Kevin Smart to get them over the line.
Charlton Kings 2nds are on top of the division after making it three wins out of three against Frampton-on-Severn. Chris Burrow (74) and Tyson McCallum (54) helped them to 220, and the home side fell short by 29 runs, with Chris Downes (3-24) and Richard Pengelly (3-33) the most successful of the bowlers.
Opener Kyle Swanepoel made 116 in Great Rissington’s all out 186, and that was too much for Cheltenham 3rds who were beaten by 40 runs with Toby Crammen picking up 4-39.
Shurdington are second in the table after beating Rockhampton by 69 runs in a rain-affected game. Skipper Tom Knight (70) and Chris White (50) were the main run-getters in Shurdington’s 270-7, and the visitors closed on 120-7 in 23 overs.
Apperley made it three wins out of three on their return to Division One following last season’s promotion as they chased down their revised target of 160 from 28 overs with five wickets and two overs to spare. Wicketkeeper Joshua Brown smashed 52 off 26 balls, including five sixes, to hurry his side to victory after Poulton had earlier made 211-9 from their 45 overs.
Cirencester were too strong for Lydney, beating them by 112 runs after posting 276-5 with Aden Vaughan (63), Declan Rugg (53) and Alex Tuck (52 not out) leading the charge. Ellis Sabbagh-Holt then took 4-19 as Lydney were bundled out in 36.1 overs.
Skipper Max Rouvray hit an unbeaten 121 from 71 balls – 10 fours and six sixes – as Dumbleton 2nds eased to a 20-run win over Woodmancote in Division Two. He dominated proceedings for the division’s leaders after arriving at the wicket with the score on 99, helping his side to reach 283-7. A fourth-wicket partnership of 164 between Will McNamara (93) and Ben Herd (59) gave Woodmancote hope, but they were dismissed with seven balls remaining after losing their last five wickets for 26 runs.
Quedgeley & Hardwicke got their campaign up and running with their first win, overcoming Redmarley by 20 runs. Captain Jake Huggins made 84, and Jordan Rouse 60 as Quedgeley & Hardwicke made 250-3. Redmarley closed on 128-7 after being set a revised target of 149 from 20 overs in a rain-affected game.
Joshua Brawn took 5-7 in 4.3 overs, and Jacob Wise claimed 3-23 as Frocester 3rds were skittled for 72 by Dymock in Division Four. Dymock then knocked off the runs in 11 overs for the loss of two wickets.
Corse & Staunton remain unbeaten after overcoming Whitminster by two wickets in a rain-affected game. Whitminster, who had won their first two games, made 209-5, but Corse & Staunton reached their revised target of 133 in 20 overs with four balls remaining. Shaun Turner, batting at seven, top-scored for the visitors with a quickfire 30 from 19 balls.
Hatherley & Reddings 3rds are setting a hot pace at the top of Division Five after a convincing 130-run win over Langford. Opener Jake Nickell top-scored with 81 while David Sims made 52 in Hatherley’s 250-7 before the visitors were dismissed in 28 overs with Matthew Hole claiming 3-41.
Winchcombe raced to a nine-wicket win with Nawaz Mucadam leading the charge to their revised target of 149 in 30 overs with a rapid 80 from 52 balls. They got home with more than 9.2 overs to spare after Stroud 2nds had earlier posted 176-7 in their 40 overs.
