Westbury-on-Severn claimed the last seven wickets for 20 runs to seal a dramatic four-run win over Ullenwood Bharat in Division Two of the Gloucestershire League.
Chasing the home side’s 210-9, Ullenwood were well placed when Toriqul Islam (68) was at the wicket, but Jon Hargreaves finished with 4-29 after taking the last three wickets, the final two in the 41st over. Earlier, Greg Artus had top-scored for Westbury with 52 while Faisal Shah claimed 4-40 for Ullenwood.
It was almost as close at The Crypt School, where Gloucester AIW Sports squeezed home by six runs against Cam. Uzair Salehbhai took the final wicket with two balls remaining as the visitors were dismissed for 240. Earlier, an opening partnership of 115 between Ali Khalid (88) and Mo Jabar (51) had provided the platform for AIW Sports, despite George Dolling picking up 4-49 for Cam.
Ben Herd, batting at four, made an unbeaten 75 for Woodmancote, but he couldn’t prevent his side from going down to a 50-run defeat against Hatherley and Reddings 2nds. They were dismissed for 146 with Obo Price picking up 4-20.
Finley Whitman took 5-20 and then top-scored for Cirencester, but his side still slipped to a 63-run defeat against Rockhampton in Division One. Rockhampton were dismissed for 152 in the 45th over, but Cirencester found batting even more difficult with Whitman (24) one of only three players to reach double figures. They were shot out in 37 overs with Peter Smith (4-21) doing most of the early damage.
Skipper Matthew Tuck led from the front for Frocester 2nds with 95, sharing in an opening partnership of 125 with Hamza Shahzad (69) as they posted 261-8.
Cheltenham Civil Service’s reply was then derailed by Ramearo Samuel, who took 5-45 as they lost by 107 runs.
Unbeaten Tetbury are on top of the table after beating previous leaders Apperley by 107 runs. Tom Wand top-scored with 58 in Tetbury’s all-out total of 247 before Jacob Flowers rushed them to victory by taking 5-16 in his nine overs.
The in-form Kyle Swanepoel made another century as Great Rissington beat Chipping Sodbury 2nds by 31 runs in Division Three. The opening bat hit 118 in his side’s 227-9, despite the best efforts of Mason Poole (5-56) and Riley Wakefield (3-23). Poole then made 54 before his side were bowled out in the 38th over.
Skipper Tom Knight (74) led from the front as table-topping Shurdington overhauled Newent’s 224-3 with five wickets and more than five overs to spare. Earlier, opening batter Jack Cowles had made 96 for Newent.
Rockhampton 2nds moved off the bottom of the table with their first win of the season, beating Fairford, who have replaced them at the foot of the division, by 64 runs after bowling them out for 116 with Steve Pritchard taking 4-28. Earlier, Brendan Hughes (60) and skipper Pierre Bell (57 not) had ensured their bowlers had something to defend.
Cinderford St John claimed a narrow three-wicket win over Cranham in Division Four, going past Cranham’s 179-9 with two balls remaining. Mark House (55) and Daniel Kibble (48 not) were the mainstays of their innings while Ian Richardson, the seventh bowler used by Cranham, took 4-35. House had earlier taken 3-30 for Cinderford St John.
Kingsholm 2nds skipper Karl George took 5-35, but it was in a losing cause against Bouton Vale 2nds, who won by 30 runs after posting 231-7 with opener Andy Philips top-scoring with 59. Kingsholm were all out in the final over with Dev Gunti taking 4-39.
Opening batters Josh Gray and Adam Ireland both made centuries as leaders, Kings Stanley crushed Frocester 3rds by 176 runs. Gray made 140, and Ireland was unbeaten on 127 in Kings Stanley’s 332-4. Frocester were dismissed in the 37th over with Jason Huxstep (3-22) and Adam Wood (3-49) the most successful of the bowlers.
Matt Clutterbuck, opening the innings, made an unbeaten 115 and Jonty Leverton contributed 69 as Whitminster remain hot on the heels of the leaders with an eight-wicket win at Sheepscombe after the home side had made 207-8 with skipper Tiaan Theron top-scoring with 57.
Seth Price (65) held the innings together for Hatherley and Reddings 3rds as the Division Five leaders gained a 23-run win over Bibury. Hatherley were bowled out for 199, but that was too much for Bibury, who were dismissed in the 36th over with Ross Burbridge, the seventh bowler used by Hatherley, taking 4-7 in 3.1 overs.
Tommy Hewlett took 4-44 for Langford 2nds as Gloucester 2nds closed on 219-9, 18 runs short of the home side, while second-placed Down Hatherley eased to an eight-wicket win over Stroud 2nds, with Shane Tigg (51 not) and Chanaka Marasinghe (50) their top-scorers as they went past Stroud’s 181-7 with seven overs to spare.
Winchcombe skipper Jack Galpin made 115 from 88 balls, sharing in a third-wicket partnership of 220 with Harry Davies (86) as Winchcombe posted 290-8, which was 62 runs too many for Goodrich.
