Last Wicket Pair Sneak Gloucester Over the Line

A last-wicket partnership of 26 earned Gloucester a nerve-tingling one-wicket win over Aston Ingham in the Gloucestershire Division of the West of England Premier League.

Last man Sabir Khan joined number 10 Saad Awan with the score on 139 after Lafras Van Vuuren had been dismissed for 72. They batted for 34 balls with Awan, who finished on 14, hitting the winning boundary from the first ball of the 44th over. Earlier, Van Vuuren had taken 3-44 while Antony James top-scored with 69 in Aston Ingham’s all out 163.

Paul Turner claimed 6-32 as  Cheltenham 2nds enjoyed their first win of the season, beating Hawkesbury by eight wickets after they were skittled for 69 in 18.1 overs. Cheltenham reached their target in 11.4 overs.

Leaders of WEPL Gloucestershire, Bourton Vale, are 48 points clear of the chasing pack and remain unbeaten after their eight-wicket win over Charlton Kings. Charlton Kings were dismissed for 180 from the final ball of their innings – Charlie Watkins top-scored with 51 – before the home side knocked off the runs in 32.4 overs. Oliver Whiteley made 84 and Dylan Driscoll 69, while earlier Lysander Tarrant was the pick of Bourton’s bowlers with 4-38.

Skipper Myles Holland thumped an unbeaten 87 from 74 balls as Dumbleton made it four wins in a row in Premier One. He got his side home by four wickets with four balls to spare against Bristol after sharing a fifth-wicket partnership of 107 with Ewan Gegg (58). That was tough for Bristol’s Archie Fellowes, who had earlier made an unbeaten 124 from 86 balls – nine fours and five sixes – in Bristol’s 287-3.

Gloucestershire all-rounder Ed Middleton made an unbeaten 104 to help Frocester to a 59-run win over Thornbury. Frocester made 235-9 despite Cani Gunaratnam taking 3-36 before Thornbury were dismissed in 38.1 overs. Opener Chris Gibson made 76 for Thornbury while Frocester captain Will Naish picked up 4-39.

Old Bristolians Westbury enjoyed an excellent three-wicket win over Golden Hill in a low-scoring game in Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset. New-ball bowler George Willis was their hero, taking 5-23 as Golden  Hill, who began the day as the leaders, were shot out for 133 in 34.1 overs, a total Old Bristolians went past in the 43rd over. Daniel Broome took 3-23 for Golden Hill, who have dropped to third, while Ahmed Syed collected 3-34.

Alex Quin, the sixth bowler used by Twyford House, picked up 6-40 as Lansdown were dismissed for 218 in the 48th over. That left them more than 40 runs short after Elliot Bevan (87) and Nicholas Chantler (55) had shared in a third-wicket partnership of 143 in Twyford House’s 259-9.

Stanley Brown hit five sixes and four fours in a quickfire unbeaten 64 from 31 balls as Cheltenham made 246-7 against Goatacre in Premier 2 Glos/Wilts. Opener Nemika Benthota also made 56 for Cheltenham before Goatacre were bowled out for 134 with Mohit Kale grabbing 3-29.

Henry Rendell (4-23), Hector Howard (3-15) and Jiwanjot Singh (3-32) were the star turns as Painswick were shot out for 112 in 28.3 overs, a total that left them well short of Chipping Sodbury’s 181. Fred Hill picked up 4-36 for Painswick.

Skipper and opening bat Milo Ayres made 126 for Brislington as they chased down Bath’s 251-6 with six wickets and more than six overs in hand in Bristol & North Somerset. Earlier, Arthur Harman had taken 3-42 for Brislington.

Taimour Warraich thumped 168 from 118 balls – 24 fours and eight sixes – in Downend 2nds’ 349-7, a total that secured them a 42-run win over Knowle. Blake Sculthorpe picked up 3-28 for Downend.

Madushan Ravichandrakumar took 3-23 and then made 54 as Frenchay eased to an eight-wicket win over Bedminster 2nds, who were dismissed for 154. Alex Stell picked up 3-44.
