Stapleton beat the weather and big rivals Winterbourne to win the Senior Division of the Bristol and District League.
And they won in impressive style after racing to 238-3 in 25 overs, with skipper Alfie Lewis leading the way with an unbeaten 111 from 72 balls. He put on 174 for the opening wicket with Nic Tindall, who thumped 77 from 57 balls.
Winterbourne skipper Ben Parker then hit nine sixes in his 76-ball 112, but Mani Ponting took 3-53 as Winterbourne closed on 188-7. Winterbourne’s defeat allowed Pak Bristolians to claim second place after they beat Portishead by 86 runs. Pak Bristolians made 155-6 in 20 overs, with Touseef Ahmad top-scoring with 50.
Pakistani Express were confirmed as champions of the Second Division, finishing 15 points clear of Bishopston 2nds on a day which saw just one game played in the division. That resulted in an 82-run win for Bohemians over Clevedon 2nds, who were restricted to 106-8 in their 20 overs with Nikhil Bhajipale taking 3-16. Earlier, Krishan Kumar (59) and Jordan Rogers (53 from 24 balls) had been Bohemians’ main run-getters.
Just four runs came from the final over of the game bowled by Brendan Foreman (2-28) to earn Frampton Cotterell an exciting six-run win over Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury 2nds in the Third Division. Frampton Cotterell had made 184-4 in 25 overs with Devon Martin hitting an unbeaten 81 from 56 balls. Ryan Monk made 57 for Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury, who closed with their ninth-wicket pair at the crease. George Foulger took 3-33 for Frampton Colterell while earlier Jennifer Rivers claimed 3-28 for Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury.
Winterbourne 2nds were also involved in a tight game, getting home by three wickets and with two balls remaining after Hampset had made 163-5 in 20 overs. Defeat left Hampset in second place, 12 points behind Frenchay 2nds.
Bristol Aces secured second spot in the Fourth Division, 36 points behind Golden Hill 3rds, after defeating Backwell Flax Bourton by eight wickets. Sarath Raveendran took 3-5 and J Thomas picked up 3-15 as Backwell Flax Bourton were bundled out for 64, a total Bristol Aces went past in 8.5 overs.
No games were possible in the Fifth and Sixth Divisions, which meant Stoke Bishop finished second behind runaway leaders Bristol United Banks in the Fifth Division, while Bristol New Eleven were crowned Sixth Division champions ahead of Golden Hill 4ths.
Bishopston 3rds finished on top in Seventh Division North, ahead of Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury 4ths – no games were played in the division on Saturday – while Tamil Nadu Bristol are champions of Seventh Division West after their 10-run win over Shirehampton 2nds after making 162-5 in 25 overs.
Second-placed Bedminster 4ths ended their campaign with a five-run win over Old Cathedralians. Bedminster were dismissed for 111 in 19.3 overs, but that was just enough as Old Cathedralians closed with their seventh-wicket pair at the crease.
Two games were possible in Eighth Division North with Patchway claiming the runners-up spot after overcoming Frampton Cotterell 2nds by four wickets with five balls to spare after Frampton Cotterell had made 146-8. Skipper Matt Porter hit the final ball of the 20th over for four to earn Easton Cuttlefish a thrilling two-wicket win over Bohemians 3rds. It was the only ball he faced after Bohemians had posted 136-9 in their 20 overs.
