On Sunday, September 20th, the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation (GCF) brought together women and girls from across the county to celebrate a successful 2026 season at an awards day held at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol.
150 female recreational cricketers who took part in GCF leagues headed to Bristol for the awards night, the culmination of an incredible year for women’s and girls’ cricket, headlined by Gloucestershire hosting six matches of the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup in June. 2026 showed women’s sport on the global stage, and the lasting legacy is already starting to be felt with young women clamouring for our girls’ cricket engagement days.
Over the summer, nearly 300 girls took part in cricket activities aimed at improving skills, regardless of their previous cricket experience. All of the events were held at local cricket clubs to demonstrate what being part of the team would be like, but also to show them as welcoming and inclusive environments. Events like this are vital for the sustainability of recreational cricket and support our mission of putting bats and balls into more people’s hands.
Trophies were not the only thing on the agenda, attendees also had the opportunity to watch the Final of League 2 of the Women’s One Day Cup between Middlesex and Glamorgan. In the late September sunshine, they saw a brilliant advert for women’s cricket as the London side seized the title.
Our girls’ awards were hosted by Gloucestershire Women’s Head Coach and former England international, Fran Wilson. The women’s awards were presented by Gloucestershire Women’s player and BBC broadcaster, Melissa Story.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the awards over the course of the day. It was incredibly special to celebrate and congratulate the outstanding performers in a landmark season. We would also like to thank every club that takes part in our competitions. We’re hoping for 2027 to use this year as a platform to take another leap forward.
