Ben’s unbeaten century helps ensure derby win

BEN Trotman guided Gloucestershire Over 50s’ 2nds to a tremendous three-wicket home win over local rivals Somerset, finishing unbeaten on 114.

The opener faced 120 balls and hit 12 fours and a six, and shared an unbroken stand of 83 for the eighth wicket with Mike Gray (33) as their side closed out the victory and stretched their unbeaten run with 15 balls to spare.

Somerset had earlier totalled 238-3 at Bristol West Indian Phoenix, Marc Jenkins (100 not), Mark Tilley (57 not) and skipper Phil Higginson (48) top scoring.

The 50s first XI, though, came unstuck by 87 runs away to Oxfordshire after being dismissed for 125.

It was a better day however for the 50s 3rds who rushed out Oxfordshire for 78 at Chalford before romping in by ten wickets.

Sathya Prakash (5-20) and Pete Bovey (4-13) led the charge with the ball before Chris McCormack (59) and Gareth Price (19) took less than ten overs to bank the points.

Gloucestershire Over 60s 3rds completed a 134-run triumph over Warwickshire at Westbury-on-Severn.

Openers Neil Wilson (102) and Richard Graham (88) took centre stage with a partnership of 199 before three wickets apiece from Paul Silvester and Andy Bolton ensured a comfortable win.

The 60s 4ths came up 23 runs short against Hertfordshire at Birdlip despite the efforts of Phil Brown (3-23) and Alan Thomas (3-30).
