Nic Tindall, who made an unbeaten 207 from 138 balls against Midsomer Norton 2nds last month, played a decisive role with the ball on Saturday, claiming 6-32 as Whitchurch were bowled out for 173 by title-chasing Stapleton in the Senior Division of the Bristol League.
He then made 45 in an opening stand of 73 with skipper Alfie Lewis (69 not out) as Stapleton rushed to a nine-wicket win in 23.2 overs.
Third-placed Stapleton are 11 points behind leaders Winterbourne, who enjoyed a 26-run win over Coalpit Heath. Winterbourne made 222-7 with Sam Bracey their top scorer with 50. Bracey then picked up 3-30 as Coalpit Heath were dismissed in the 44th over.
Second-placed Golden Hill 2nds are 10 points off the pace after their eight-wicket victory over Portishead. Portishead were bowled out for 161, a total Golden Hill went past in the 30th over with Simon Hygate undefeated on 80 from 65 balls.
Opener Mark Sage made an unbeaten 98 from 94 balls – nine fours and four sixes – as Timsbury claimed their third win of the campaign in the First Division. They chased down Lodway’s 177-8 for the loss of eight wickets and with 22 balls to spare. Earlier, Greg Passingham had been the pick of the Timsbury bowling attack with 4-36.
George Stone took 4-14 and Ross Edwards 4-22 as Hanham bowled out Shirehampton for 108. That left them 92 runs short of Hanham’s total, in which Luke Stone top-scored with 50.
George Williams fell two short of his century, but he still set Old Down on the way to a five-wicket win over Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds. They clinched victory in the 36th over after Bristol West Indian Phoenix had made 233-9. Mahir Toshniwal was their top scorer with 54 while James Thomas took 3-41 for Old Down.
Skipper Richard Burroughs made an unbeaten 76 from 48 balls as Bishopston 2nds raced to a seven-wicket win over Twyford House 2nds. Twyford House, who at one stage were 6-4, were bowled out for 154 with skipper Matt Collins their top scorer with 50. New ball bowlers Edward Marshall and Ali Hamza did most of the damage for Bishopston with 4-18 and 3-15 respectively.
Ben Pine held Frenchay 2nds’ innings together with an unbeaten 82 as the Third Division leaders picked up a three-wicket win over Long Ashton. They got home with 16 balls remaining after Long Ashton had made 183-6 with Sam Manning making an undefeated 52.
An unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 116 between Lahiru Perera (65) and Dhaham Panditharatne (58) hurtled Bristol Sri Lankans to a seven-wicket win in the 26th over against Winterbourne 2nds. Winterbourne were bowled out for 175 with Tobias Vamplew making 71, while Deepal Dewage took 4-31 for Bristol Sri Lankans and Benura Umanga claimed 3-24.
Lee Swindlehurst, opening the batting, made an unbeaten 63 to help Bitton overcome Brislington 2nds by 70 runs in the Fourth Division. Bitton made 193-9 with David Blake taking 4-37 before Brislington were dismissed inside 27 overs with Muhammad Irfan picking up 4-35. Ashley Nutt made 51 for Brislington.
Prasok Ramachandran grabbed 5-29 for Bristol Aces in their three-wicket win over Barrow Gurney. Bristol Aces overhauled Barrow Gurney’s 180 all out in 29.3 overs with Sineesh Syril smashing an unbeaten 50 from 20 balls.
Stoke Bishop swept to a 103-run win over Pak Bristolians to step up their promotion push in the Fifth Division. George Britton made a 71-ball 81 in their 230-9 before Max Beckett took 4-9 as Pak Bristolians were dismissed in the 35th over.
Leaders Bristol United Banks eased to a five-wicket win over Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury 3rds, overhauling their 208-9 in the 35th over. Farman Ahmed was their top scorer with 71 while Sartaj Aziz made an unbeaten 58 and skipper Bilal Raja contributed 55. Earlier, Abdul Stanikzai took 3-25 for Bristol United Banks.
Aravind Sundar was the star turn for Bristol Eagles in their eight-wicket success over Stapleton 2nds in the Sixth Division. Sundar took 3-17 as Stapleton were restricted to 148-8 and followed up with an unbeaten 72 to guide his side home in the 24th over.
Bristol Eagles are level on points at the top with Bristol New Eleven, who eased to a five-wicket win against Abbots Leigh. Vineeth Raghavan made an unbeaten 68 from 51 balls to take his side to victory in the 27th over after Abbots Leigh had made 186. Salu Kanakalil Thomas took 4-34 for Bristol New Eleven.
Henry Taubman picked up 5-18 as Bath 4ths were limited to 144-7 by Golden Hill 4ths, who reached their target in the 32nd over for the loss of four wickets. Romesh Tenuwera was their top scorer with 51, putting on 90 for the first wicket with Wilf Newton (48).
Hambrook 2nds’ skipper Parv Brar, batting at eight, made an unbeaten 77 from 60 balls to steer his side to a one-wicket win over Coalpit Heath 2nds in Seventh Division North. They chased down Coalpit Heath’s 238-8 with three balls to spare after opener Harish Sisodiya had given them a fine start with 86 from 88 balls. Hayden Thompson took 3-34 for Coalpit Heath. Earlier, Milind Kalkher cracked 71 from 46 balls for Coalpit Heath, an innings containing seven fours and four sixes.
Just 13 runs came from the final six overs as Alveston finished on 182-9, four runs short of Frenchay 3rds’ all-out total. Z Raja took 3-13 for Alveston while Aaron Cole (3-30) and Luke Patel (3-31) were the main wicket-takers for Frenchay.
Numbers 10 and 11, Vinnie Hicks (20) and Neil Peacock, shared in a last-wicket partnership of 28 to earn Brislington a one-wicket win over Mells in Eighth Division East. They won with seven overs to spare after bowling out Mells for 176, with Matt Henley taking 3-24.
Patchway 2nds also won by a single wicket, chasing down Frenchay 5ths 225-4 with eight balls to spare in Ninth Division North. Ashley Forbes and Mike Lilley were their last-wicket heroes after skipper Richard Holland had made 69.
James Kerton made an unbeaten 91 for Frenchay while his opening partner Rafi Khaksar contributed 54.
