Week 12 … is another league washout for all our clubs

BARELY a ball was bowled across Gloucestershire as rain decimated league programmes for the third week in a row.

No results were possible on week 12 of 18 in our Saturday competitions, leading to yet more frustration for players and officials who will be desperate hoping for a change in weather fortunes.

For a while, it seemed as if Frocester were somehow going to buck the trend by defying the conditions to make a delayed start to their West of England Premier League Premier One home clash with leaders Potterne.

The Wiltshire side, who lost the toss, were bowled out for 151 in just under 33 overs with Gloucestershire Academy spinner Max Dunne taking centre stage.

The 17-year-old Marlborough College student sparked a collapse from 115-4 thanks to a terrific spell of 5-31 from seven with Ryan Kilmister, Tommy Boorman and Joe Wadham also taking wickets.

Frocester, who began the day in fifth place, then took control with the bat thanks to openers Jared Warner (39) and former captain Uzi Qureshi (29) but, after reaching 72-0 after 12 overs, the rain once again rolled in and that was that for the day.
