Week 13 Bristol & District League round-up

CARSONS & Mangotsfield kept alive their hopes of a third successive promotion in the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League with a nervous two wicket win away to Barrow Gurney.

The home side reached 210-8 after losing the toss, Sam Brayley, Jack Woodland and Isaac Buckingham each taking two wickets.

Carsons, in reply, were battling at 55-4 before George Farmer dug in with 60 while Buckingham smashed an unbeaten 61 from 43 to complete the victory with three balls in hand.

The result means Carsons are second, 11 points behind leaders Bristol Sri Lankans who they host on Saturday.

Two wickets apiece for Deepal Dewage and Benura Umanga helped reduce Chew Valley to 120-9 before Onila Rajapaksha (38) led the Sri Lankans to a four wicket success.

Third-placed Bristol Aces remain in the promotion hunt after a five-wicket home victory against University Staff.

The visitors were pegged back to 151-9, a target which the Aces reached in less than 24 overs with opener Muhammad Saim hammering 63.

Golden Hill 2nds are up to third in the Senior Division after to a 26-run home win over promotion rivals Downend 2nds.

Marcus Allan’s 68 was the high point of Golden Hill’s 216 all out, Mark Litson (3-32) and Dan Semple (3-34) both shining.

And Dan Broome then took centre stage with a spell of 6-19, including the wicket of Mahdi Saleem who was bowled for 105 from 119 (14 fours), that helped ensure the win.

Shirehampton remain second in Division Two despite a 30-run setback away to Knowle 2nds who are now just 14 points behind their rivals in the race to go up.

Bishopston 2nds chased down a target of 267 with eight balls to spare for a two wicket success at Old Down, Lewys Ryan (49) and Joe Wenham (43) playing vital innings.

Under-15 all-rounder Riley Wakefield cracked his first senior century, finishing unbeaten on 121 off just 62 (19 fours, two sixes) for Chipping Sodbury 4ths who eased in by nine wickets in Division Eight North at home to Coalpit Heath 3rds, Ben Leonard from the under-13s earlier grabbing 3-11 from seven.
