THERE were very few results on the final weekend of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League season because of rain, but Hambrook 2nds managed to race to a nine-wicket home victory over Frenchay 3rds to bag second place in Division Seven North.
The visitors were rushed out for 61 in less than 20 overs, Faisal Mustafa paving the way with figures of 6-22 from 4.3 overs.
And Hambrook then required less than six overs to bank the points, opener Suleman Butt dominating with an unbeaten 37 from 22 balls.
In Division Nine East, Bristol Lions 2nds were dismissed for 97 away to Midsomer Norton 3rds who eased in by nine wickets to grab second place.
Elsewhere, it was a frustrating afternoon for clubs desperate to play and either push for promotion or get themselves out of trouble at the other end of the table.
There was plenty at stake, for example, in Hanham’s Senior Division home clash against fellow strugglers Claverham who reached 185 all out.
With the four other matches all abandoned, victory for either side would have ensured safety. It was advantage Hanham, who were going well at 68 without loss after 16 in the pursuit of a revised target of 134 from 25, before another cloudburst brought the game to a close with the result that both sides were relegated.
Coming up from Division One are Midsomer Norton 2nds and Whitchurch, while Bristol 3rds and Shirehampton took the top two positions in Division Two.
All promotions and relegations throughout the 18-division competition will be confirmed after ups and downs in WEPL are signed off.
