Week Three Bristol & District League review

OPENER Dave Gardner finished unbeaten on 176 for Old Down 2nds who rushed past Hallen by 145 runs in Division 12 of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

His side piled up 296-3 after losing the toss before Hallen were dismissed for 151, Reg Purchase hastening the victory charge with a haul of 5-12 from five.

In Division Six, Kishan Patel’s 110 not out (15 fours, five sixes) plus an unbeaten 50 from captain Chris Hull saw Patchway cruise to a ten-wicket home win against local rivals Almondsbury 2nds who were earlier bowled out for 180, Derry West finishing with fine figures of 7-45.

Gagan Singh completed his second successive century for Bristol New Eleven who overcame St George Valley by 98 runs in Division Eight.

Singh’s 122 came off only 74 balls and featured ten fours and ten sixes as he put on 176 for the second wicket with opener Vineeth Raghavan (103 not) in a total of 312-5 ahead of the visitors coming up well short.

In Division Five, Dilshan Wijayakumar was in explosive form for Bristol Sri Lankans, blasting an unbeaten 106 off just 65 (eight fours, eight sixes) in an 87-run success at Frenchay 2nds.

Bristol West Indian Phoenix, aiming to return immediately to WEPL after last season’s relegation, made it three from three in the Senior Division thanks to an eight-wicket home victory against Timsbury.

The visitors were shot out for 147 before openers Nicky Clark (64) and Raj Chudasama (61 not) took charge with the bat.

Next for BWIP is a visit to Frenchay who are also unbeaten after a two-wicket victory away to Claverham.

Half centuries from Matt Croker and Lloyd Richardson lifted Claverham to 220-8 before Akeel Yousaf (56) and Reece Bevan (52) sealed the points for Frenchay.

Bowling performance of the day came in Division 30 where Pete Lodge bagged 7-9 from six overs for Carsons & Mangotsfield 3rds who overcame their Pucklechurch counterparts by 121 runs.
