Women’s WEPL gets off to blistering start

The weekend of the 28th May saw the official start to our all new for 2023 Women’s WEPL.

Taunton Deane got off to a winning start against Dumbleton a few weeks earlier, owing to a re arrangement.

Wins for Royal Wootton Basset, Fenchay, Bath and Bridgwater as they started their campaigns.

Royal Wootten Bassett vs Devizes

RWBCC took on Devizes in a Wiltshire Derby, with Devizes playing hosts, RWBCC won the toss and elected to bat first, Carys Shah with 25* Jodie Bounds 18 and Elise Haines 17 setting a target of 147 after being bowled out after 39.5 overs, pick of the bowlers from Devizes Martha Honeybone, Victoria Stone and Jen Heppell with two wickets a piece.

Devizes set about their chase; they fell short being bowled out for 102 in the 30th over. Anna–Mae Shearn hitting 34 and Katy Cobb with 19*, Lauren Shrubshole and Xara Jetly with three a piece and Rachel Fenney also getting two with the ball for RWBCC

Dumbleton vs Bath

Dumbleton played hosts to a very strong Bath side, Dumbleton won the toss and elected to bat, unfortunately not making it past 35.2 overs being bowled out for 121, Katie Jones making 50 and Issy Huggett with 25, pick of the bowlers for bath, Charlotte Phillips and Emily Smith with three a piece and Isla Thompson with two.

Bath chased down the target without loss in 13.5 overs with runs coming from Isla Thompson 57* and Emma Godman 35*.

Frenchay vs Golden Hill

Golden Hill and Frenchay faced off in a Bristol derby with Golden Hill winning the toss and electing to bat, Frenchay bowlers took hold and bowled the visitors out for 76 in 28.1 overs, runs for Prarthana Reddy (25) and Bea Willis 18 with the wickets coming from Rachel Le Poidevin with 4 for 13 off 8 and Emily Austen with 4 for 13 off 5.1

Frenchay began their chase with Ellie Donaldson 36* and Liv Daniels with 15* reaching the target in 14.4 overs losing two wickets at the hands of Ella Steward and Abigail Woodworth.

Bridgwater vs Taunton Deane

Taunton Deane played hosts to Bridgwater in their local derby, the visitors won the toss and elected to field, Taunton Deane setting a target of 190 for 8 off their 40 overs, with runs coming from Tirion Swart (48) Brooke Whittaker (32) Millie Lusk (23) and Hannah Hughes (20). Georgia Tulip taking 4 for 23 off 8 and Poppy Hawker taking 2 for 32 off 8.

Bridgwater having a great start to their chase with Daisey Jeanes Making a quick start (30) which was later bolstered by a great knock from Joleigh Roberts (94*). The visitors chasing down the target only 4 down in 30.4 overs two wickets a piece coming from Isabelle Reed and Millie Lusk.
