The biggest ever season of female cricket reaches celebratory conclusion
Award season is in full swing as 2025 comes to a close. A bumper year of women’s and girls’ cricket has been celebrated over the last few weeks with awards nights for Gloucestershire Recreational Cricket.
On Saturday, 15th November, the Gloucestershire Women’s Recreational Cricket awards took place.
The Barn at Berkeley played host to an evening of fun and laughter, as clubs came together to celebrate individual and team successes. A grand total of 42 awards were handed out on the night.
It was a landmark year for women’s cricket in Gloucestershire, with 354 matches played, 1,202 wickets taken, and 26,068 runs scored. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who took part in women’s cricket during 2025.
A full list of award winners can be found later, but honourable mentions to Jess Smith of Bath Cricket Club for making the highest score of the season, by making 177. There were also five women to take five wickets in an innings: Alice Hill (Hatherley & Reddings CC), Emily Tomkinson (Golden Hill CC), Eva Ewers (Golden Hill CC), Lara Foot (Huntley CC), and Vicky Mansell (Cam CC), who took the best figures of 5 for 8.
The following week, it was the turn of the Girls with the event held at Frocester Cricket Club. 214 matches took place across the county throughout the season, with 13,869 runs scored and 865 wickets falling.
Trophies were again handed out for league winners, best batters, and bowlers. But a couple of individual performances stood out. Lucy Bull (Apperly CC) provided the highest single innings score with a brilliant boundary-laden 108, while the best bowling performance went to Emily Tomkinson (Golden Hill CC). She went on to claim an incredible 5-fer, while conceding just four runs. Congratulations to her on achieving this bowling milestone in both the women’s and girls’ leagues.
Along with the trophy presentation, the girls had pizza supplied by The One Pizza. They went down a treat, with plenty of happy faces.
Congratulations once again to all of the award winners, and a massive thank you to everyone who took part over the course of 2025. With the arrival of the ICC Women’s World T20 in the UK next year, we are hoping to make 2026 even bigger for women’s and girls’ cricket. Keep an eye out for all of the fun events we have planned.
