Bristol Hammer Thornbury in WEPL Premier One

Jake Carstens and Nic Halstead Cleak both scored centuries as Bristol thumped Thornbury by 199 runs in Premier One of the West of England Premier League.

Opener Cleak made 107 from 109 balls while Halstead scored 124 from 113 deliveries, with the pair putting on 158 for the second wicket. Bristol, who lost the toss, closed on 351-4 and then shot the home side out in 39.3 overs for 152 with Jonty Hall picking up 3-29. The win lifted Bristol up to sixth spot while Thornbury, who had previously lost only one game, drop to fourth.

Ollie Heard was run out from the final ball of the game through a combination of Joe Millard and Fahad Sabir to earn Bedminster a thrilling tie against Bath. Bedminster made 243-8 with Jamie Brooks (56) and William Salzmann (54) their main contributors. Bath’s innings was built around Harry Dixon’s 96, but even after he was fifth man out with the score on 196, the visitors looked like winning as at one stage they were 233-5 in the 47th over.

GCF coach, Luke Woolway, scored a run-a-ball 71 for Frocester, but it was in a losing cause as they went down by seven runs to Bridgwater. Skipper Max Dunne made 56 as Frocester were dismissed from the final ball of their innings for 268. Earlier, Wimma Perera snapped up 3-29 for Frocester as the visitors were dismissed in 48.5 overs.

Tom Kelly maintained his fine form by blasting 72 from 42 balls for Dumbleton – nine fours and four sixes – but his side were unable to make it back-to-back wins. They were beaten by 11 runs by Potterne after being dismissed for 201 in 40.2 overs. Earlier, Ollie Horne had taken 5-29 as Potterne were bowled out in 37.1 overs.

Harawal Wassam, batting at three, played the lead role for Golden Hill as they overhauled Clevedon’s 186 with three wickets remaining in Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset. Wassam made 107 of his side’s runs from 110 balls. Earlier, Jacob Stevenson snapped up 4-18 for Golden Hill.

Masoor Khan made 85, skipper Jordan Garrett 63 and Taimour Warraich 58 not out in Downend’s 280-6, but they were beaten by five wickets by Taunton St Andrews, who won with 20 balls remaining.

Opening bowler Chris Bolton took 3-20 as Congresbury were bowled out for 128 by Twyford House, who knocked off the runs in 21.5 overs with six wickets in hand.

Old Bristolians Westbury also enjoyed a comfortable win, overhauling 

Weston-super-Mare’s 147 in 28 overs and their fifth-wicket pair at the crease. Jino Jojo was unbeaten with 54 from 34 balls.

Hatherley and Reddings remain on top of Premier 2 Glos/Wilts, but Corsham went very close to ending their unbeaten start to the season. Opening batsman Henry Driver-Dickerson gave them a flying start with 110 from 43 balls, an innings that included 10 sixes and 11 fours. Opening partner Noah Bennett made 74 in Hatherley’s 346-9, but Corsham made a real go of reaching their target before falling five runs short. They needed eight runs going into the final over with their ninth-wicket pair at the crease, but skipper Tom Hage picked up the final two wickets, the last with the fifth ball of the over, to clinch a nerve-tingling win. Spinner Max Kelly also played a key role in the win, picking up 5-63.

Second-placed Cheltenham had a far more comfortable win, racing past Marshfield’s all out 83 in just 12.5 overs with their opening batsmen still both at the crease.

Mike Kelly was unbeaten on 58 while earlier Jack Cherington snapped up 5-11 in eight overs.

Greg Ford, batting at six, set up Painswick for a thumping 131-run win over Goatacre, smashing 143 from 89 balls, including 10 fours and 13 sixes. David Bennett belted 70 from 57 balls – the pair put on 123 for the fifth wicket – as Painswick made 359-8. Benny Howell then picked up 4-50 as Goatacre were dismissed in 40.5 overs.

Promoted Chipping Sodbury won their first game of the campaign, overcoming bottom-of-the-table Purton by five wickets. Tom Whitaker smashed an unbeaten 104 from 68 balls in Purton’s 297-5, but Chipping Sodbury squeezed home with five balls remaining, with Alex Gooding (60) and Jake Reed (55) leading the way.

Tom Stevens took 4-48 for Tewkesbury, but despite an unbeaten 94 by Josh Richards, who carried his bat, they fell 113 runs short of Royal Wootton Bassett’s 267-9.

Vipul Patel picked up 6-82 as Bristol West Indian Phoenix earned a two-wicket win at Knowle in Bristol & North Somerset. The home side were dismissed for 181 in 35.5 overs, a total Bristol West Indian overhauled thanks largely to Neiland Cadogan, who was unbeaten on 64 from 59 balls, and opener Muntasir Nayeem, who made 55 from 26 deliveries.

Frenchay also won by two wickets with Alex Stell (3-16) and Sonny Reynolds (3-30), the most successful of their bowlers, as Keynsham were restricted to 195-9. Rishabh top-scored for Frenchay with 44.

Soban Irfan collected 4-15 as Downend 2nds were bundled out for 135, which was 120 runs fewer than Bristol Pakistanis made, while leaders Bishopston eased to a five-wicket win at Brislington. The home side were dismissed for 212 with opener Milo Ayres top-scoring with a quicker-than-run-a-ball 70. William Thirkell picked up 3-40, and then Arnold Otwani (73) led the run chase with Bishopston getting home with eight overs remaining.

Tawanda Maposa took 6-41 as Gloucester were dismissed for 212 in the Gloucestershire Division despite the in-form Lafras Van Buuren making 70.

Charlton Kings were then indebted to an unbeaten 95 by opener Charlie Watkins as they got home with four wickets and 10 balls to spare.

A fine all-round performance by Anthony James helped Aston Ingham to a 53-run win over Cheltenham 2nds. James made 68 in Aston Ingham’s 212 and then took 5-35 as Cheltenham were dismissed at the end of the 45th over. Adam Stuart top-scored for Cheltenham with 51.

James Dallaway (4-29) and Harrison Tegg (3-11) helped Corse & Staunton to bowl out Hawkesbury for 199 despite the best efforts of Kudzai Maunze (66) and George Bailey (55). It was a total Corse & Staunton went past for the loss of five wickets, with Edward Gooden their top scorer with 55.

Jack Groves made 55, and Matt Andrews 53 as Chipping Campden reached 247-8 against Stroud, a total that was 135 runs too many for the home side, with Dylan McAteer taking 5-17.

Leaders Bourton Vale remain unbeaten after overcoming Langford, who made 211-9 thanks largely to opener Tino Mushonga, who made 94. Mark Whitney (67) and Musa Twala (54) were the main run-getters as Bourton got home by five wickets with nine balls remaining.
