Winchcombe kept their Gloucestershire League Division Five promotion hopes on track after a nail-biting one-wicket win over Langford.
Jarrod Campling, batting at nine, was their hero with an unbeaten 33 from 23 balls – he hit three fours and a six – to see his side home with one ball remaining. Chasing Langford’s 238, he had arrived at the wicket with his side on 142 early in the 31st over. He added 59 for the eighth wicket with Owen von Seckendorff (41) and then 34 for the ninth wicket with Chris Dear, who followed up his 5-45 by making 18.
Dear fell to the fourth ball of the final over with Winchcombe still needing four to win, a target they reached with the help of two no balls. Earlier, Liam Court top-scored for Langford with 75.
The win leaves second-placed Winchcombe five points behind Down Hatherley, who were beaten for the third time in a row.
They went down by 57 runs to third-placed Hatherley and Reddings 3rds, who made 215 despite Chris Stuart’s 4-29. Ross Burbridge then took 4-11 and Sathya Prakash claimed 4-27 as the leaders were dismissed in 31.1 overs.
Jamie Cowell made 109 of Bibury’s all-out 211, a total that earned them a 76-run win over Cricklade. Mitchell Reeve took 4-16 for Bibury.
Rokhan Khan smashed a 64-ball 101 – seven fours and seven sixes – in Gloucester 2nds’ 276-6 as they beat Stroud 2nds by 97 runs. Opener Ray Harrington contributed 74 before Nasir Khan took 5-28 as Stroud were bowled out in 26.5 overs.
Division One leaders Tetbury needed just 7.5 overs to go past Cirencester’s all-out 90 with the big-hitting Luke Ashen making an unbeaten 55 from 21 balls, including seven sixes. Cirencester, who won the toss, were bowled out in 30.3 overs with Jacob Flowers taking 4-21 and Will Golding picking up 4-25.
Cheltenham Civil Service claimed just their third win of the campaign as they overcame Thornbury 2nds by 89 runs. Caleb White (4-22) and Mike Teague (3-11) were their star bowlers as Thornbury were dismissed for 77 at the end of the 28th over. Earlier, Muhammad Bilal had collected 3-37 for Thornbury.
Ramearo Samuel claimed 4-13 and then made 58, but he couldn’t prevent promotion-chasing Frocester 2nds from going down to a 23-run defeat against Poulton. Aaron Tuck also took 3-35 for Frocester as Poulton were bowled out for 175 before Frocester, who at one stage were 31-5, were dismissed in the 43rd over with Billy Breen taking 4-36.
Apperley, who trail Tetbury by 13 points, hold a 24-point advantage over Frocester 2nds with three games remaining after their eight-wicket win over Lydney. Dave Means enjoyed a fine all-round game, taking 4-19 as Lydney were dismissed for 159 and then making a quickfire 60 from 32 balls. Josh Brown was also in brutal form, thumping an unbeaten 63 from 34 balls.
Tewkesbury 2nds eased to a nine-wicket win over Rockhampton with Matt Alonso leading the charge with an unbeaten 105. Rockhampton had made 163 with Brandon Coates (3-15) and James Whitmore (3-36) doing much to restrict them.
Dumbleton 2nds have moved two points clear of Gloucester AIW Sports in Division Two after beating them by 50 runs. Arthur Sweeting made an unbeaten 117 at quicker than a run-a-ball in Dumbleton’s 254-5 and Luke Mills then took 3-32 as Gloucester AIW Sports closed with their last-wicket pair at the crease. Muhammad Madni was their top scorer with 55.
Kingsholm new-ball bowler Jack Beck claimed 5-36 as Kingsholm enjoyed a 168-run win over Woodmancote. Sam Wheeler chipped in with 3-15 as Woodmancote were dismissed for 96 in 22.3 overs. Earlier, opener Ben Cowap had top-scored for Kingsholm with a quickfire 64 from 38 balls while skipper Luke Bond’s 54 came from 37 deliveries. Michael Morris took 4-60 for Woodmancote.
Churchdown climbed into second spot in Division Three, six points and one place above Great Rissington after beating them by seven wickets. Harry Clements took 4-30 as Great Rissington were restricted to 236-9 despite Giles Wellman’s unbeaten 60 and Tom Webley’s 54. Churchdown got home with five balls remaining after a second-wicket partnership of 172 between Flyn Waller (108) and John Mumford (83).
Charlton Kings 2nds’ hold a 14-point lead over the chasing pack after their 84-run win over Fairford. Sebastian Jordan took 4-31 and Tim Griffiths 3-38 as Fairford were bowled out for 184, a total that would have been a lot smaller but for a last-wicket partnership of 96 between Harvey New (57 not) and Olly Taylor (44). Earlier, Matt Luxton (78), Chris Downes (58) and Chris Burrow (54) had been Charlton Kings’ leading run-getters.
Opener Alex Gooding made an unbeaten 94 from 103 balls as Chipping Sodbury 2nds reached 206-9, a total that was 50 runs too many for Newent, for whom Jack Cowles took 3-24.
Skipper Tom Knight hit an unbeaten 101 as Shurdington rushed to an eight-wicket win with more than eight overs remaining against Frampton-on-Severn, who made 200-9.
Cranham skipper Theo Nicholson picked up 5-20 as Sheepscombe were rolled over for 131 in 33.4 overs in Division Four. Alex Pockett then hit an unbeaten 60 as Cranham eased to victory with more than 18 overs remaining.
Kings Stanley won the battle between the top two, beating Whitminster by 17 runs after making 182-8, stretching their lead to 29 points.
Tim Dulson hit five fours and six sixes in a 50-ball unbeaten 79, but he just failed to get Aston Ingham 2nds over the line in Division 6A against Apperley 2nds. They were beaten by two runs after Apperley had posted 225-7 with Rob Birch, who bowled the final over of Aston Ingham’s innings, top scoring with 63. Skipper Jimmy Davies made 50 at the top of the order for Aston Ingham.
