On Friday, 19th June, we welcomed over 100 young cricketers from across Gloucestershire to Cheltenham College for a fantastic Dynamos Schools Finals Day, enjoying a day of competition, teamwork, and fun in the summer sunshine.
The event brought together schools from around the county, with pupils taking part in a series of matches designed to develop their skills and encourage participation in cricket. Throughout the day, players demonstrated great enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and a real passion for the game.
Our Clubs & Programmes Officer, Kieran Slade, was managing the event: “We would like to thank all of the children who took part and represented their schools so brilliantly. But a special thank you also goes to the teachers and school staff whose support helped make the day possible, as well as Cheltenham College for hosting the event and providing excellent facilities like they have done for many years.”
There was plenty of exciting cricket on display, with teams competing for the Open and Girls’ titles. After a series of closely contested matches, Mangotsfield School emerged as the winners of the Open competition, while King’s School claimed victory in the Girls’ competition. Congratulations to both schools on their achievements, and well done to every team that took part. King’s School were handed their trophy by Gloucestershire Women’s cricketer, Emily Geach, who spent the day with us, enjoying the action. The standard of cricket, attitude, and enjoyment shown throughout the day was a credit to all involved.
A finals day under glorious blue skies was the culmination of months of qualifying matches that took place at schools and cricket clubs around Gloucestershire. Despite the weather, some events were called off, but we still managed to have 15 festivals take place.
Over these 15 festivals, a total of 1101 young boys and girls played cricket at their schools. We believe that cricket is a fantastic way to promote physical activity, but it is also brilliant for working on communication, teamwork, and growing confidence.
Many people believe that cricket is not taking place in schools. In Gloucestershire, this isn’t true. We’re passionate about putting bats and balls into more people’s hands. We look forward to the school cricket season in 2027!
