Tetbury Thump Poulton On The Back Of Ashen’s All Round Heroics

Luke Ashen had an excellent all-round match as Tetbury thumped Poulton by 151 runs in Division One of the Gloucestershire League.

After Tetbury skipper Alex Evans had won the toss, the opener smashed 81 from 56 balls to help his side to 268-4.

He then shared the new ball and snapped up 6-39 as Poulton were shot out in 27.2 overs. Earlier, Chris Job had made 96 for Tetbury while Tom Wand finished unbeaten on 52.

Apperley returned to winning ways with a 60-run success over Frocester 2nds after posting 189 with Josh Brown top-scoring with 73. Remearo Samuel picked up 4-28 for Frocester.

Declan Rugg made 91 and Dan Leach 69, sharing in a partnership of 144 for the fourth wicket as Cirencester made 222-5 against Cheltenham Civil Service. That was 93 more than the home side managed with Ellis Sabbagh-Holt and Hans Walpola, who both took 3-29, the pick of Cirencester’s bowlers.

James Tunnicliffe grabbed 5-38 for Thornbury 2nds as Rockhampton were dismissed for 210, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his side from sliding to a 74-run defeat, with Will Brisco (3-24) and Finley Sherred-Isles (3-28) the most successful bowlers for Rockhampton.

New-ball bowler Luke Bond claimed 7-28, but Kingsholm were unable to force a win after bowling out Division Two leaders Dumbleton 2nds for 134. Daniel Hammond took 4-15, and Max Rouvray picked up 4-10 in 2.5 overs as Kingsholm were shot out for 55 in 19.5 overs. 

Raife Hackett ran out Kalel Caswell to earn Cheltenham 3rds an exciting four-run win over Chipping Sodbury 2nds in Division Three. Chipping Sodbury were dismissed for 193 with 11 balls remaining after Cheltenham had made 197-6. Frankie Gooding took 3-36 for Chipping Sodbury, while Manas Atreya claimed 4-31 and Hackett 3-36 for Cheltenham.

Opener Kyle Swanepoel was in the runs again as leaders Great Rissington swept to a 92-run win over Rockhampton 2nds. Swanepoel made a run-a-ball 64 while fellow opener Jack Hughes contributed 75 and Casper Green an unbeaten 52 in Great Rissington’s 273-4. Hughes then claimed 3-38 as Rockhampton closed on 181-9.

Charlton Kings 2nds recovered from 85-5 to reach 236-6 against Shurdington, thanks in large part to Kirby Madaramete, who made an unbeaten 61 from 29 balls, which included six sixes, batting at eight. He then took 3-44 as Shurdington were dismissed for 187, with Jack Styman top-scoring with 61.

Opener Flynn Waller made 100 not out in Churchdown’s 213-4, but Frampton-on-Severn opener Tom Mangan also hit an unbeaten century as Frampton eased to a seven-wicket victory with more than three overs remaining.

Mangan, who made 105, put on 125 for the first wicket with Nathan Hudd (50).

Opener Matt Clutterbuck hit 118 and Jonty Leverton, batting at three, made 85 as Whitminster reached 262-6 against Bourton Vale 2nds, who were then dismissed for 112 in 27 overs in Division Four.

Leverton took 3-31 for second-placed Whitminster, who trail leaders Kings Stanley, 87-run winners over Dymock, by three points.

Langford lost their last five wickets for five runs – the final two to run-outs – as Cricklade claimed a thrilling tie in Division Five. Cricklade had earlier looked to be in control when they reduced Langford to 69-5 in reply to their 223-5, but then James Hewlett hit a quicker than a run-a-ball 98 to swing the game back in his side’s favour before he was the sixth man out.

Skipper Jack Galpin hit 125, but Winchcombe still finished 30 runs short of leaders Hatherley and Reddings 3rds’ 301-9. Galpin enjoyed a third-wicket partnership of 125 with Eddie Huggett (79) while Matthew Hole picked up 3-53 for Hatherley.

Earlier, Josh Moore (94) and Tejas Bandal (78) had been the main run-getters for Hatherley. Ben Meikle took 4-48 for  Winchcombe.

Highnam Court, the leaders of Division 7A, smashed 404-7 from their 40 overs against Penallt & Redbrook. Opener Jason Mosley hit 178 from 91 balls – 14 fours and 16 sixes – to set them on their way while Mihir Patel crashed 68 from 25 balls – six fours and six sixes – and Rob Burgess made 62 as Penallt were beaten by 205 runs.

Stanway lost their final two wickets from the last two balls of the 40th over – both to run-outs – to finish two runs short of Cheltenham Civil Service’s 180-8 in Division 7B.

Viraj Kantharia took 4-45 for Cheltenham Civil Service, who are now second, one point behind leaders Birdlip & Brimpsfield.

Peter Storey, batting at nine, took a single from the fourth ball of the final over to clinch a one-wicket win for Apperley 3rds over Ashleworth Woodpeckers in Division 9B. Ashleworth had earlier been dismissed for 145 with Isaac Challens taking 4-21. Isaac Bate-Williams made 62 for Ashleworth.

A remarkable game at Williamstrip saw the home side skittle Cricklade 3rds for 36 in 15.2 overs but then lose seven wickets themselves before getting home at the end of the 15th over in Division 9D.

Bruce Currie was the most successful of the Williamstrip bowlers with 3-6 from four overs.
