Week 11 Bristol & District League round-up

GAGAN Singh completed his second successive century as Bristol United Banks trumped leaders Golden Hill 3rds by 50 runs in Division Five of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

Singh, who came in at three, followed up an unbeaten 127 against St Mary Redcliffe with another ton before he was dismissed for 104 from only 70 (12 fours, five sixes).

That knock helped his side reach 315-6 after losing the toss, captain Sartaj Aziz adding 83 from 46.

And opener Max Davis then did his very best to keep Golden Hill in the fight, but his unbeaten 136 from 127 (20 fours) was in vain as the visitors could only reply with 265-6, Gurjeet Singh taking 4-49 from eight.

Gagan Singh, meanwhile, is enjoying a memorable run of form. He’s the league’s leading scorer after 11 rounds with 753 runs under his belt – more than 100 ahead of his nearest rival – and, remarkably, has failed to pass 50 in only one of his ten innings to date.

Golden Hill stay top but are now only ten points clear of Bristol Pakistanis 2nds who chased down 259 away to their Stapleton counterparts for a six-wicket victory, Naginder Singh smashing 112 from 80 (15 fours, six sixes).

Alex Broomsgrove hit 151 off 95 (19 fours, seven sixes) for Frampton Cotterell 2nds in a 55-run win away to Charlton Super Kings in Division Nine North.

And in Eight East, Dhaham Panditharatne’s unbeaten 149 from 127 (20 fours, three sixes) secured a 58-run victory for Bristol Sri Lankans 2nds at Bristol Mavericks.

It was tough going at most grounds for the bowlers but in Division Seven West, there was a fine display from Bedminster 4ths’ Nischith Raphael who grabbed five wickets in 11 balls, including a hat-trick.

He finished with 6-10 from 4.1 overs as Long Ashton 2nds folded from 137-2 to 143 all out ahead of Bedminster romping in by eight wickets with captain Cody Pullin unbeaten on 70.

In Seven North, the last wicket pair of Omar Khawaja (18) and Ben Philips (16) put on 33 to see Frenchay 3rds to an exciting one wicket win over their Bishopston counterparts.

Bish were all out for 195 while a young Frenchay side, featuring eight teenagers and five under-15s, battled hard for the points with Mohsin Asif top scoring on 53.

Stapleton made it four in a row in the Senior Division, inflicting only the second defeat of the summer on leaders Bath 2nds.

The Bristol side were all out for 225, Babar Pervaiz (55), Alfie Lewis (47) and Ash Birkinshaw (44) all making their mark before Pervaiz (4-36) helped secure an exciting four-run triumph as Bath slipped from 196-6 to 221 all out.

Hanham are off the bottom after a 33-run home win over promoted Portishead, skipper Ross Robbins finishing with 4-18 from seven.

Shirehampton stay top of Division Two but hold only a one point advantage after a 66-run home reverse against neighbours Twyford House 2nds, Ash Ball grabbing 3-37 from six.
