Week Two Gloucestershire County League review

OUTSTANDING performances from Alex Ballard and George Dolling helped propel Cam to a 57-run victory away to Cinderford St John in Division Two of the AMS Gloucestershire County League.

Opener Ballard batted all 40 overs to finish unbeaten on 136 off 104 (20 fours, two sixes) in a total of 224-9 where the next highest scorer was 20.

And Dolling then quickly found a testing line and length to follow up with a haul of 6-20 from eight to reduce Saints to 58-7 ahead of wrapping up the points with plenty to spare.

Ben Smith produced the bowling performance of the day, bagging 7-33 from eight overs for Haresfield Gladiators who dispatched Chedworth by 117 runs in Division Six.

Smith hit the stumps five times as Chedworth slumped to 61 all out after Haresfield had earlier battled their way to total 178.

The batting partnership of the afternoon saw Jimmy Williams and Steve Best share a stand of 259 for Apperley 2nds who trumped Stone by 147 runs, also in Division Six.

Williams hit 145 off 100 (18 fours, three sixes) while Best’s 126 from 81 featured 14 fours and seven maximums as their side piled up 354-3 after losing the toss. And Ashley Brick crashed 103 (seven fours, nine sixes) for Upton St Leonards who trumped Eastcombe by 56 runs

In Division One, opener George Bailey guided newcomers Hawkesbury Upton to a seven-wicket home success over Cheltenham 2nds, finishing unbeaten on 122 off 126 (11 fours, four sixes) while Tim Chancellor had earlier bagged 5-21 from nine.

Captain Rob Birch finished two runs shy of a ton for Kingsholm at home to Aston Ingham, plundering 14 fours and three sixes off 76 deliveries to help set up a 99-run victory.

In Division Seven, CJ McLean compiled an unbeaten 108 in Down Hatherley’s 63-run success over St Phillips North while Ellis Sabbagh-Holt bagged 5-25 from eight for Cirencester 2nds who held off Cheltenham 3rds by 107 runs in Division Five.

James Meacham’s fine spell of 4-12 from 7.1 overs restricted Woodmancote to a challenge of 153 but it proved to be enough as Tetbury were then bowled out six runs short in this Division Three encounter, Lewis Lincoln-Gordon taking 3-20, including two vital strikes at the end.
