Luke Bond Takes All 10 Wickets For Kingsholm in GCL

Kingsholm skipper Luke Bond produced the performance of the day as he took all 10 wickets in his side’s 168-run win at Westbury-on-Severn in Division Two of the Gloucestershire League.

Bond’s figures were 9-0-34-10 as Westbury were shot out for 64 in 17 overs. And Bond didn’t need too much help from his teammates either, because seven of his victims were bowled and another fell lbw. Earlier, Jack Ellis made an unbeaten 96 from 101 balls and Matt Cayless an undefeated 67 as they helped Kingsholm recover from 85-4.

Arthur Kane (32 not out) took 14 runs off the last over, but it wasn’t quite enough as Dumbleton 2nds went down to a one-run defeat against Ullenwood Bharat, who had made 224-8. Max Rouvray picked up 3-43 for Dumbleton while  Raveesh Kumar collected 3-35 for Ullenwood.

Leaders Gloucester AIW Sports got home by two wickets with just one ball remaining against Hatherley and Reddings 2nds in another thriller. Hatherley had made 207-8 with Krithik Hanagavadi top-scoring with 58. At 151-3 in the 32nd over, Gloucester AIW looked well placed, but in the end, it needed a couple of boundaries in the final over by Imtiyaz Baxa to get his side over the line.

Woodmancote clinched their first victory of the campaign, overcoming Redmarley by 15 runs, although Craig Stow could count himself very unlucky to be on the losing side. Redmarley’s skipper took 4-30 as Woodmancote made 177-9 and then made 62, sharing in a partnership of 92 for the sixth wicket with Oliver Aston (51). Will McNamara picked up 4-16 and Ryan Bignall 3-30.

A week after holding his nerve in the final over to earn Lydney a three-run win over high-flying Apperley in Division One, Jordan Stone was at it again. Only this time, he was centre stage with both bat and ball as Lydney defeated Rockhampton by one run. Again, Stone bowled the final over of the game, but this time he needed just two balls to clinch victory. His final wicket was his fifth of the innings – he finished with 5-31 – as Rockhampton were bowled out for 165. Earlier, Stone had made an unbeaten 76 after arriving at the crease with his side 20-4. They closed with seven wickets down.

Dave Means took 5-16 and the consistent Devin Rogers 3-18 as Thornbury 2nds were shot out for 100, a total Apperley knocked off in 13.2 overs with Josh Brown unbeaten on 55 from 21 balls.

Hans Walpola took 6-32 as Poulton were bowled out for 162  by Cirencester. But opener William Mason’s 62 proved to be the decisive knock because Cirencester were then dismissed for 144.

Just eight points separate the top five in Division Three, with Great Rissington climbing to third after beating leaders Charlton Kings by one run. Todd Abraham got the final wicket from the fifth ball of the penultimate bowler as Charlton Kings were dismissed for 167. Tyson McCallum top-scored for Chalton Kings with 64 while Daniel Parker took 4-21 for Great Rissington. Earlier, Adam Russell had been the most successful of the Charlton Kings bowlers, taking 3-27 as the home side ended their innings with nine wickets down.

Manas Atreya picked up 5-24 as fourth-placed Cheltenham 2nds dismissed Newent for 102, although they needed an unbroken eighth-wicket partnership of 55 between Stuart Houghton (41) and Ben Hunt (8) to get them over the line. Ben Allard took 4-14 for Newent.

Second-placed Churchdown won by three wickets at fifth-placed Shurdington, who made 228-6, while Fairford won by seven wickets against Frampton-on-Severn. That was thanks in large part to Colin Bullock, who took 6-7 in 6.1 overs as Frampton were bowled out for 125.

George Nethercote was another player among the wickets, taking 6-15 for Chipping Sodbury 2nds as they restricted Rockhampton 2nds to 108-9.

Kingsholm 2nds claimed their first win of the season in Division Four, beating Dymock by 104 runs after bowling out the visitors for 79. Benet Sathyadass took 5-19 and Neil Rayer 3-9. Earlier, James Field (3-26) and James Thomas (3-34) were the most successful bowlers for Dymock as Kingsholm’s innings closed with their 10th-wicket pair at the crease.

Cranham dug deep to beat Corse & Staunton 2nds by 11 runs after making 176-9, thanks in large part to James Pockett’s 59. The top four for Corse & Staunton all made starts, but Hamad Zazai picked up 4-26 to help his side to victory.

Opening batter Andy Philips belted 123 from 97 balls as Bourton Vale 2nds reached 275-7 at Sheepscombe. That was 132 runs too many for the home side despite Jack Thomas’ 63.

Winchcombe skipper Jack Galpin took his batting average for the season to 127 as he made an unbeaten 51 in his side’s six-wicket win over Cricklade in Division Five.

Cricklade had earlier been dismissed for 135, with Wade Campling collecting 3-20.

Matthew Dicks top-scored with 55 for Hatherley while Joe Spencer (4-43) and Jack Cotterell (3-42) were the most successful of the Lechlade bowlers. Denish Patadia picked up 4-10 for Hatherley.

Division 9A leaders Huntley 2nds remain unbeaten, but it was mighty close against Lydney 3rds, who they eventually overcame by one wicket. Lydney made 188-7 with Suresh Velayudham dominating their innings with 119 from 100 balls. Huntley squeezed home thanks mainly to Duncan Abbott’s 81 from 67 balls. Sohail Abbas took 5-40 for Lydney.
