Under unseasonably glorious sunny skies, Chipping Sodbury Golf Course played host to our annual golf day. Bringing together 27 teams to raise money and support our work in the cricket community across Gloucestershire.
With the help of our fantastic partners and events like this, we can continue to grow our cricket offerings. Coaching in a school for a single term costs roughly £350; the success of our golf day means we can be in even more schools.
This is just one example of what we can do as we aim to put bats and balls into more people’s hands.
Out on the golf course, the standard was incredibly high. It was one of the highest-scoring events in recent years. A huge thank you goes out to Chipping Sodbury Golf Club for being so welcoming and for hosting us. The course for the day was immaculate, and no doubt played a part in such a wonderful day.
Steve Silk, CEO, Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation: “I want to extend a massive thank you to all of the teams who took part in our golf day. I hope you had an enjoyable day. I also want to thank Chipping Sodbury Golf Club, your ground staff did an incredible job on the course, and your staff were excellent with their hospitality.
Events like this are vital to increasing our revenue and helping us with our mission to put bats and balls into more people’s hands and improve lives through the power of cricket. A final thank you goes out to all of the businesses that donated auction and raffle prizes.”
Alongside the action on the course was a raffle and auction, with some sensational prizes on offer. Days at some of the top golf courses in the country, as well as tickets to the Gallagher Prem Rugby final, corporate seating at the cricket, and a top-of-the-range tablet, all available to be won. If you did win one of these prizes, please tag us in any social media posts. We want to see you enjoying your day.
Finally, congratulations to all of the winners on the day. The victory went down to a countback on the final 9 holes to separate a tie between JEM Heating Services and Long Ashton Cricket Club. In the end, it was JEM Heating who took home the top team prize, with their player, Rod Thomas, also claiming individual honours.
As well as those competitions, there was also a longest drive on hole 3, which was won by Will Rawlins (BOM IT Solutions). Two nearest the pin challenges also took place on holes 4, won by David Rees (Frocester Vets), and hole 6 won by Rod Thomas (JEM Heating Services).
We are already excited about our 2027 event. The sunny weather is booked, and your team’s place can be too. If you’re interested, then get in touch with Steve via email or phone on 07554 452228.
