Great Rissington Beat Leaders to Remain in the Hunt

Great Rissington are back in the top two in Division Three of the Gloucestershire League after an eye-catching two-wicket win over leaders Charlton Kings 2nds.

They got home with just three balls remaining and are now nine points off the pace with two games remaining. Charlton Kings were restricted to 192-9 with opener Chris Burrow making 58. Daniel Parker was the most successful of the Rissington bowlers with 3-34, before Casper Green (58) and skipper Giles Wellman (54) gave them a chance of victory despite Burrow claiming 5-46.

And it was a big day at the top of the table because Churchdown, who started the day in second place, were beaten by eight wickets by fourth-placed Shurdington, who themselves are still very much in the promotion picture.

Churchdown made 170-7 with Mason Beasley taking 3-28 before Shurdington knocked off the runs in 28.2 overs with captain Tom Knight undefeated on 89 and Ryan Tyson on 51. Churchdown trail Great Rissington by nine points and are eight points ahead of Shurdington.

Jack Cowles thumped an unbeaten 140 from 110 balls – 13 fours and seven sixes – in Newent’s five-wicket win over Cheltenham 3rds. He had good support from Ollie Corston (51) as Newent overhauled Cheltenham’s 288-8 with five balls remaining. Earlier, Mohammed Bokhari had made 69 for Cheltenham and Rob Cooper 65.

Chipping Sodbury 2nds eased to a 73-run win over Rockhampton 2nds thanks in large part to a fifth-wicket partnership of 128 between opener Ronnie Freeman (103) and skipper Dan Peachey (69 not out). That helped them to 260-5, which was too many for Rockhampton despite Harry Collins’ 57. Riley Wakefield took 3-35 for Chipping Sodbury.

Ramearo Samuel made 50 and then took 3-30 as Frocester 2nds beat Division One leaders Tetbury by 19 runs. Third-placed Frocester, who are 26 points off the pace,  won the toss but were dismissed for 159, with Mike Anderson taking 5-37 and Chris Job picking up 3-29. Tetbury were then dismissed in 31.1 overs, with Samuel’s new ball partner Freddie Collinson claiming 4-44.

Apperley drew level with Tetbury on points, although they remain second on net run rate, after overcoming Thornbury 2nds by six wickets. Abdul Samad made an unbeaten 57 for Thornbury while Dave Means (3-18) and Craig Baldwin (3-20) were the main bowlers for Apperley as Thornbury were bowled out for 153. Josh Brown’s unbeaten 75 from 51 balls saw Apperley home in the 26th over.

Opener Rowan Cartlidge made an unbeaten 122 while Finley Sherred-Isles was undefeated on 56 in Rockhampton’s 252-2, which was 121 runs too many for Lydney. Ben Ferguson made 61 for Lydney while Peter Smith claimed 3-31 for Rockhampton.

Sanath Jayawardhana returned figures of 5-8 from nine overs, and Charles Snow picked up 4-16 as Cheltenham Civil Service were bundled out for 56 by Tewkesbury 2nds, who themselves had been dismissed for 101. Caleb White took 4-23 for Service.

Hatherley and Reddings 2nds remain in the promotion frame in Division Two after inflicting a second successive defeat on Gloucester AIW Sports. Hatherley made 226-8 with Kruthik Hanagavadi (60 not out) and Ben McDhane (58) leading the way. Kaihaan Zakhil took 3-56 before AIW were bowled out for 138, with Joel Price picking up 3-36.

Hatherley are 14 points and one place below second-placed AIW, and they’re 30 points adrift of Dumbleton 2nds who were eight-wicket winners over Ullenwood Bharat.

Jitesh Thammisetti made 50, but Freddie Sharp took 5-36 and Daniel Hammond 4-29 as Ullenwood were bowled out for 159. Openers Ethan Pietkiewicz (69) and Edward Alderman (55) then led the Dumbleton run charge.

Unbeaten Division Four leaders Kings Stanley need one more win to clinch the title after overcoming Cinderford St John by 69 runs.

Ed Mobbs made 126 from 115 balls and skipper Paul Frape compiled an unbeaten 76 in Kings Stanley’s 236-4 before Cinderford St John were dismissed in 36 overs, with new ball bowlers Tyler Wood (4-32) and Adam Wood (4-33) doing much of the damage.

Cranham made 255-6 against Corse & Staunton 2nds, who were then dismissed for 135. Theo Nicholson (52) was Cranham’s top scorer before E Buttress took 3-21 and George Whalley 3-43 as Cranham secured their fourth win in a row.

Division Five leaders Down Hatherley ended a run of three successive defeats when they beat Gloucester 2nds by 59 runs. Openers Harry Kent (97 not out) and Martin Collier (95) got the bulk of their 260 runs for the loss of just one wicket, and then Adam Milsom took over, picking up 7-37 as Gloucester were dismissed in 36 overs. Rohan Khan top-scored for Gloucester with 56.

Hatherley and Reddings 3rds  moved into second place, one point ahead of Winchcombe, after beating Lechlade by 80 runs. Tejas Bandal was their main contributor with 85 in their 257-8 before Denish Patadia claimed 4-24 as Lechlade were bowled out inside 38 overs, despite opener Jayden Camarda, who made 53 before being run out by Bandal.

Longborough & Sezincote are champions of Division 6B after beating Swindon United Churches by 65 runs. There were half-centuries for Josh Newbould (67), Perry Humphreys (55 not out) and Simon Leather (53) in their 256-4 before Henry Leonard took 3-52 as Swindon United Churches closed with their eighth-wicket pair at the crease.

Ruardean Hill 2nds squeezed home by one wicket with one ball remaining against Aston Ingham 3rds in Division 8A. They scored 25 runs from the final 11 balls as they chased down Aston Ingham’s 171-4.

Will Green made an unbeaten 63 for Aston Ingham while Jeevan Jiji picked up 3-38 for  Ruardean Hill. David Skyrme took 3-45 for Aston Ingham.

Division 9E saw three teams win by one wicket on a remarkable day, with Cam 3rds beating Frampton-on-Severn 3rds, Tetbury 3rds defeating Minchinhampton 2nds and Whitminster 3rds overcoming Stroud 4ths.

Skipper Damion Rowsell made 60 in Frampton’s 144-8 – Steve Rice took 3-8 – before picking up 4-11 in his eight overs, but he couldn’t prevent Cam from getting home with four overs remaining.

Leaders Tetbury got over the line with six overs remaining despite Rory Scott’s 6-21 after Minchinhampton had been dismissed for 124.

Neil Williams was Whitminster’s hero, making an unbeaten 110 to steer his side to victory after Stroud had made 201-8. Noel French and Martin McGill claimed 3-17 and 3-26 respectively for Whitminster.
