Seat Unique Stadium to host county cup and U19 T20 finals

THE home of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club will host two major events this weekend.

On Saturday, Chipping Sodbury and Hatherley & Reddings will contest the First Class Comms County Cup final, which gets underway at 1pm.

And the following day, the Seat Unique Stadium will welcome four sides all battling it out for honours in the BOM IT Solutions U19 T20.

Sunday will begin with the first semi-final at 10am, between Golden Hill and Painswick, while the second play-off will follow straight after, with Cheltenham facing Whitchurch.

The final is due to take place at around 4pm.

Steve Silk, the chief executive of the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation, said: “We’re extremely grateful to the county for opening their doors on both days to stage these two events.

“The chance to walk down the stairs from the famous dressing rooms and on to the outfield of the county ground will be a career highlight for players taking part in these two competitions, creating memories that will last a lifetime.”

Officials have their fingers crossed on the weather forecast after the U16 T20 finals day at Chipping Sodbury was disrupted by the heavy rain that also badly affected the last weekend of the local league season.

Cheltenham were in full control of the first semi-final in the Stuart Canvas Performance Cup against the hosts, rattling up 164-5 with both opener Nirvaan Jain and Max Fallon retiring on 50.

Sodbury were then struggling at 36-8 in reply when the clouds opened and play had to be abandoned.

Cheltenham qualified for the final against Stapleton, which will be rearranged on a date and at a venue to be announced, along with the U16 Development final.

Only one over was possible before players from Frenchay/Carsons & Mangotsfield and Frocester/Frampton-on-Severn were forced to duck for cover.

THE Bristol & District have made one late change to their side ahead of the GCF Trophy challenge match against the Gloucestershire League, at Coalpit Heath on Saturday (12.30pm).

Aaron Jones is unable to play with Will Duggan, of Downend 2nds, taking his place.
