Week 10 West of England Premier League review

SAM Hewitt’s 94 off only 75 helped steer Gloucester to a five-wicket victory away to Charlton Kings that moved his side up a place to fourth in WEPL’s Gloucestershire division.

The opener cracked 13 fours and four sixes as the visitors reached a target of 166 in less than 27 overs after Craig Collinson had earlier claimed 3-25.

Bourton Vale emerged six-wicket home victors in a rain-affected clash with Stroud, captain Charlie Garratt leading from the front with an unbeaten 75.

And Dumbleton rushed past Cirencester by 181 runs, skipper Ross Martin hammering 26 fours in his 149 which came off 134 balls before Dan Hammond struck with a return of 4-17 from seven.

The other games in this division were abandoned, a story that was repeated throughout the league as showers of varying degrees swept across the region.

Just one result was possible in Premier Two Glos/Wilts, leaders Thornbury completing a 36-run success away to Cheltenham as the rain also had a big impact on proceedings.

Opener Josh Riggs thumped 78 off 51 (14 fours, one six) as the visitors were bowled out for 226. And Cheltenham then finished well short of a revised target, paceman Jack Worgan leading the charge with a return of 2-11 from five while Harry Donelan captured 2-23.

There were only two finishes in Premier One, Bedminster holding off Chippenham by 15 runs and Potterne going top with a seven-wicket win at Taunton Deane.

Finish of the day came in Premier Two Bristol/Somerset where Golden Hill closed out a five-run home win over promotion rivals Clevedon.

Bowling hero was 18-year-old leg spinner Dan Broome who finished with memorable figures of 6-12 from four and Toheed Hamid claimed 2-8 as Clevedon slipped from 52-2 to 66-9 and then 78 all out in yet another rain-affected game.

Leaders Bishopston were four-wicket winners at Weston-super-Mare where Gus McKenzie (4-17) and Dan Harris (3-20) inflicted the damage.

And Downend are up to third after a four-wicket triumph at Bridgwater 2nds which owed much to Olly Sharp’s unbeaten 53 from 35 (one four, five sixes).

There was a tie in Bristol & North Somerset, Twyford House and Bedminster 2nds finishing all square, and Bristol 2nds ended a run of five successive reverses with a six-wicket home defeat of Winterbourne, Will Rudge producing a burst of 5-30 from ten.
