Week 11 Gloucestershire County League review

NICK Osborne produced a memorable all-round display as Minchinhampton trumped local rivals Stroud 2nds to remain on the fringes of the promotion race in Division Five of the Greene King IPA Gloucestershire County League.

Minch were battling to compile a decent total before Osborne, at seven, produced an unbeaten 52 to help his side reach 178-9, Ryan Boucher capturing 4-14 from eight.

And Osborne was then in inspired form with the ball, finishing with figures of 5-33 from eight, as Stroud folded to 110 all out, Matt Hole supporting with 2-25, also from eight.

Leaders Churchdown went down by 57 runs at Cricklade for whom opener Chris Nicholas compiled a patient unbeaten 78 while there was 73 from Alex Kill before three wickets apiece by Andy Cox, Adam Robbins and Angelo Rigali wrapped up the points.

Unbeaten Division One leaders Tewkesbury saw off Westbury-on-Severn by 32 runs, Louis Whitmore top scoring on 50, while Charlton Kings remain second followed a 26-run triumph at Aston Ingham that featured a half century from Dave Waters.

The top two in Division Two also both won. Leaders Hawkesbury Upton were eight-wicket victors at Gloucester AIW Sports, Sam Beeley taking 4-45 and captain George Bailey unbeaten on 67, while second-placed Chipping Campden had to work hard for a three-wicket home success over Cinderford St John.

Hatherley & Reddings 2nds are off the bottom courtesy of a three-wicket home defeat of Woodmancote, Chris Dunning-Walton shining with an unbeaten 73.

Rockhampton 2nds, the Division Three pacesetters, edged Tetbury by 27 runs, openers Harry Collins and Mark Beale both hitting 72.

Frampton-on-Severn, though, lost ground following a 36-run home setback against Fairford for whom Will Bowers, Jon Welch and Colin Bullock bagged three wickets each.

Division Four leaders Tewkesbury 2nds won by six wickets at home to Sheepscombe, while half centuries from the father-and-son partnership of Ian and Adam Robson helped Corse & Staunton 2nds to a 58-run victory away to their Chipping Sodbury counterparts.

Kingsholm 2nds, the Division Six pacesetters, suffered their first reverse of the summer with an eight-wicket defeat at Whitminster for whom Ross Wakeley was unbeaten on 80.

At the other end of the table, there was a first win for Ruardean Hill who were six-wicket victors at home to Chedworth, Nick Jayne (78 not) and Andy Pearce (53) starring with the bat.

James Maxwell’s 69 and 54 from opener Anth Perrins were the highlights of Division Seven pacesetters Eastcombe’s five-wicket success at home to Oaksey for whom Alex Tuck also compiled 69.
