Week 17 Bristol & District League round-up

SKIPPER Ross Robbins timed his first century of the season to perfection as Hanham sealed a 94-run win away to fellow strugglers Cleeve to take the fight to avoid relegation from the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League’s Senior Division down to the final weekend.

The bottom three sides look set to drop down this year because of events in WEPL. And with only 14 points between seventh and tenth place, there is still everything to play for.

Hanham edged up to eighth thanks to their latest victory, opener Robbins finishing on 110 not out from 133 (12 fours, two sixes) in a total of 227-7 after winning the toss.

George Charles-Price (4-31 from nine) then helped Hanham close out the win, Robbins taking the final wicket.

His side are now on 162 points going into their final game of the campaign, entertaining ninth-placed Claverham (159) while Cleeve, who are last on 157, travel to Coalpit Heath with Portishead (171) away to Stapleton.

Bound for WEPL along with Bath are Downend 2nds who will finish second after a six wicket home defeat of Coalpit Heath, Izatullah Stankzai claiming 4-25 from seven.

Shirehampton continued their drive for promotion from Division Two with an eight-wicket home triumph over Frampton Cotterell, Nathan Brown taking 4-35 and finishing unbeaten on 56, while Knowle 2nds remain in the hunt after edging Old Down by 19 runs.

Division Three leaders Pakistani Express completed a six wicket home victory over Backwell Flax Bourton, Sohail Ahmad taking 4-17 from eight and top scoring on 45.

Bristol Sri Lankans, meanwhile, clinched the Division Four silverware with a seven wicket home win against Bohemians, Deepal Dewage and Sachintha Madushan both claiming three wickets.

But second placed Bristol Aces slipped up, by 18 runs at Chilcompton Sports. And that result allowed Carsons & Mangotsfield to take their place thanks to a 76-run defeat of Chew Valley, openers Matt Clatworthy hitting 81 and Tom King 50.

Carsons conclude their season on Saturday at home to Chilcompton while Aces, who are four points behind their rivals, host Chew Valley.
