SKIPPER Ross Robbins produced an inspired spell of bowling for Hanham who moved out of the bottom two with a 49-run home victory over Coalpit Heath in the Senior Division of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.
The visitors were travelling well at 104-2, in pursuit of a target of 193 in 39 overs. But Robbins made his presence felt immediately after bringing himself into the attack, bagging four wickets in his first three overs including the dangerous John Donaldson for 54.
Jack Alway lent useful support with a burst of 3-19 as Robbins ended up with 4-33 and Heath’s reply tailed away to 143-9.
Winterbourne are up to third with a 97-run win at Claverham, Nabeel Ahmad’s devastating 5-20 from nine helping skittle the home side for 64 after Damian Lingard had earlier marked his return to the first team with a dogged 51.
Joe Tolman and Dan Semple claimed three wickets apiece as Downend 2nds overcame neighbours Stapleton by 67 runs while Golden Hill 2nds were seven-wicket winners at Cleeve.
Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds moved off the bottom of Division One with a seven-wicket success away to their Keynsham counterparts, and Krunal Visavadia produced one of the bowling displays of the day for Hambrook, claiming 6-10 from only 4.1 overs, to pave the way for a seven-wicket home triumph against Lansdown 2nds.
Bristol 3rds continued to set the pace at the top of Division Two with a three-wicket victory away to Bishopston 2nds, Aimal Ahmad top scoring on 57.
And an unbeaten 102 off 108 from Mark Frost (18 fours) could not save Winterbourne 2nds from a three-wicket home derby reverse against Frampton Cotterell for whom Sam Peplow (64) and Devon Martin (43 not) played crucial roles.
Something had to give in Division Four when the unbeaten top two of Bristol Aces and Bristol Sri Lankans went head-to-head.
And it was the Sri Lankans who came out on top to take pole position, Vesh Rajini finishing with 3-12 from five and Onila Rajapaksha unbeaten on 49.
Simon Jones’ figures of 6-53 from eight could not stop St Mary Redcliffe from sliding to a 125-run setback in Division Five away to Bristol Pakistanis 2nds for whom Simranjit Marok crashed 107 from 58 (six fours, eight sixes).
And in Division Six, Aravind Sundar’s tremendous effort of 6-11 from 6.3 helped Bristol Eagles to a 127-run home victory over Bath 4ths, Kumar Mutyala earlier top scoring on 66.
