Andrew Rasemene hit the final two balls of the match for four and six to condemn Dumbleton to a heartbreaking defeat in their first-ever game in Premier One of the West of England Premier League.
Rasemene, batting at nine, smashed an unbeaten 35 from just 16 balls to clinch a dramatic one-wicket victory for Burbage & Easton Royal in a rain-affected game.
Burbage & Easton were chasing a revised target of 138 from 20 overs, a target they looked unlikely to reach until Rasemene’s dramatic intervention.
Earlier, last season’s Premier 2 Glos/Wilts champions had posted 221-9 from their 50 overs with opener Dan Holland top-scoring with 56 and Gloucestershire batter Tom Boorman chipping in with 43.
At one stage, Dumbleton were 123-1, but then that man Rasemene made his first intervention, taking 4-40 from his 10 overs.
The other four games in the top tier were all abandoned on a day when the rain came at just the wrong time.
Every game in Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset was abandoned, although not before Downend and Taunton St Andrews had posted imposing totals.
Downend made 348-9 against Old Bristolians Westbury, who won the toss, with opener Callum Loud leading the way with 158 from 127 balls, including 16 fours and nine sixes.
Taunton St Andrews went almost 60 runs better against Twyford House, reaching 404-5 with Logan Dupont finishing unbeaten on 150 from 147 balls – 15 fours and six sixes – while fellow opener Callum Hendry smashed 93 from 75 balls.
Twyford House, like Old Bristolians, were prevented from replying by the weather.
It was a similar story in Premier 2 Glos/Wilts, where all five games were abandoned, although there was still enough time for former Gloucestershire all-rounder Benny Howell to put on a show of big hitting at Hatherley and Reddings.
The 37-year-old, batting at four, smashed an unbeaten 105 from just 72 balls as Painswick reached 273-5.
He hit six fours and eight sixes, but Hatherley made a good start to their reply and were 95-1 from 18.5 overs when the rain intervened.
All five games were abandoned in Bristol & North Somerset, although Downend 2nds had time to score 277-7 against Brislington with Blake Sculthorpe leading the way with 103 from 98 balls, an innings that included nine fours and six sixes. Brislington were unable to begin their reply.
There were no results possible in the Somerset Division, but the rain held off long enough for the Gloucestershire Division to produce two results and the Wiltshire Division one.
Bourton Vale and Corse & Staunton were the successful teams in the Gloucestershire Division, with Bourton, last season’s runners-up, enjoying a nine-wicket win against Cheltenham 2nds.
Cheltenham were dismissed for 184 in 43.3 overs despite a better than a run-a-ball 66 from wicketkeeper Chris Williams, who was batting at four.
Cheltenham were 136-3 in the 31st over before Gabriel Green got to work, taking 4-26 in nine overs.
Oliver Whiteley led Bouton’s push towards their revised target of 161, finishing unbeaten on 65.
Corse & Staunton, meanwhile, eased to a 61-run win over Aston Ingham in another rain-affected game.
Aston Ingham won the toss and gave first use of the wicket to Corse & Staunton, who made 296-8 with James Dallaway scoring 84 and Ben Morton 72.
The visitors were well short of their revised target of 138 from 24 overs, closing on 74-3.
In the Wiltshire division, Potterne 2nds beat Trowbridge by eight wickets in another rain-affected game.
Trowbridge were shot out for 131 in 31.3 overs with new-ball bowler Heshan Hettiarachchi the pick of the attack with 5-37 from his 10 overs.
Requiring 95 from 28 overs, Potterne were steered to victory with 9.3 overs remaining by Tom Spencer, who made an unbeaten 50.
