Dumbleton Cricket Club may have rewritten the record books after producing one of the most remarkable scorecards ever seen in T20 cricket.
On Tuesday evening, Dumbleton amassed an astonishing 417 for 2 from their 20 overs against Hatherley & Reddings CC in an official Varistha T20 league fixture before completing victory by 188 runs.
The innings was powered by one of the most explosive knocks ever recorded in club cricket. Ewan Gegg blasted an unbeaten 206 from just 55 balls, reaching his hundred in only 30 deliveries before racing from 100 to 200 in a further 24 balls. His innings included 23 sixes and 13 fours, while Dan Holland struck 122 from 37 balls and Thomas Kelly added 64 from 25.
In total, Dumbleton hit:
• 417 runs in 20 overs
• 47 sixes
• 22 fours
• 69 boundaries
• A run rate of 20.85 runs per over
• 47 sixes
• 22 fours
• 69 boundaries
• A run rate of 20.85 runs per over
Remarkably, the entertainment didn’t stop there. Hatherley & Reddings responded with an impressive 229, meaning the match produced 646 runs in just 39.1 overs.
Following the match, club officials began researching the scorecard against known T20 records from around the world. Early research suggests Dumbleton’s 417 may be the highest score ever recorded in a men’s club league T20 match, while the match aggregate of 646 runs also appears to exceed previously reported club records.
To cap it all off, Ewan came on and got a wicket with his first ball to complete the match – and despite all those boundaries, only 1 ball was lost!
Club spokesman Peter Boorman said:“This started as a normal Tuesday evening league game and by the end of the night everyone realised they’d witnessed something extraordinary. We’ve spent the last 24 hours researching scorecards from all over the world and the more we’ve looked, the more significant it appears to become. Whether one record or several are eventually recognised, it was amazing entertainment from both sides!
