Stapleton Claim Bristol & District Senior Division Lead

Stapleton are the new leaders of the Bristol League Senior Division after an exciting four-run win over Pak Bristolians.

They clinched victory when Pete Mounstephen ran out number 11 Ismail Zia from the third ball of the final over, an over Pak Bristolians began needing seven runs to overhaul Stapleton’s 170-8. Ben Scott (40) top-scored for Stapleton while Subhan Razaq claimed 4-23 for Pak Bristolians. Nic Tindall (4-27) was the pick of the Stapleton bowlers.

Stapleton have taken over at the top from Golden Hill, who were beaten by seven wickets by Coalpit Heath. Golden Hill were dismissed for 133 in 28 overs with Matt Smith (4-13), Chris Cooke (3-21) and Aaron Neal (3-33) doing the damage before knocking off the runs in 22 overs with Danny Slade hitting an unbeaten 79.

Skipper Ben Parker hit 125 from 118 balls as Winterbourne made 276-6 against Whitchurch. Sam Bracey made 60, adding 131 with Parker for the third wicket, and their score was 131 too many for Whitchurch, who were dismissed in 31.4 overs with Mason Lingard taking 3-31.

Timsbury claimed their first win of the campaign in the First Division, beating Claverham (Yatton) by 23 runs after bowling them out for 161. Martin Richards was the most successful of their bowlers with 3-38.

Lewis Mason took 4-38, and Lewis Palmer picked up 3-17 as Bath 3rds, who won the toss, were shot out for 77 in 26.1 overs by Shirehampton, who passed their total in 12.2 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Hambrook continue to set a fast pace at the top of the Second Division after overcoming Clevedon by 64 runs. Cameron Perry took 5-27 as Clevedon were dismissed for 140 at the start of the 38th over. Earlier, opener Adrian Kislingbury top-scored with 70 in Hambrook’s all-out total.

Bishopston 2nds held firm against Bristol West Indian Phoenix 2nds to win by 12 runs despite an unbroken 10th-wicket partnership of 30 which saw skipper Zemroy Thomas, batting at eight, finish unbeaten on 40 from 27 balls. They closed on 214-9 with Joe Cook taking 3-36 for Bishopston. Earlier, Lewys Ryan top-scored for Bishopston with 70 while  Cadell Reid (4-40) was the most successful of the Phoenix bowlers.

Srinath Gandhi grabbed 5-24 as Winterbourne 2nds were skittled for 88 in 22.1 overs by Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury 2nds in the Third Division. Milind Kalkher picked up 4-20 before Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury knocked off the runs in 10.3 overs for the loss of one wicket.

Hansika Kavinda produced a fine all-round performance as Bristol Sri Lankans beat Carsons & Mangotsfield by 93 runs. Kavinda made 63 in Bristol Sri Lankans’ 282-5 before picking up 4-34. Skipper Lahiru Perera top-scored for Bristol Sri Lankans with 86 while Onila Rajapaksha made 67.

An unbeaten 137 from 114 balls by Monty Weatherall – 18 fours and four sixes – helped set up Frampton Cottrell’s 57-run win over Failand & Portbury, who closed on 200-5.

Leaders Frenchay 2nds bowled out Old Bristolians Westbury 2nds for 99 in 33.1 overs with Don Kulathungage taking 4-6 in five overs, but then lost eight wickets themselves before getting over the line.

New-ball bowlers Stuart Hepburn (2-13) and Matthew Shepherd (4-22) reduced Blagdon, who won the toss, to 3-4 in the Fourth Division. And it was a position from which they never really recovered as they closed on 100-9, a total leaders Golden Hill 3rds went past for the loss of three wickets.

Second-placed Bristol Aces, who trail Golden Hill by 15 points, gained a hard-fought 27-run win over Brislington 2nds thanks in large part to Mithun Murali Girija, who made 70 of their all-out 146. David Blake took 4-30 for Brislington while Prasok Ramachandran picked up 3-20 for Bristol Aces.

An opening partnership of 162 between George Aldous (90) and skipper Jason Loud (60) set up St Mary Redcliffe’s 43-run win over Bitton. That helped their side to 261-4, which was too many for Bitton, for whom Oliver Folwer top-scored with 59.

Skipper Mohammad Harris led from the front with an unbeaten 91 as Bristol Pakistanis beat Pak Bristolians 2nds by nine wickets in the Fifth Division. His bowlers had set up the victory chance by bowling out Pak Bristolians for 166, with M Khalid the most successful with 3-41. Qaisar Shahbaz top-scored for Pak Bristolians with 51.

Skipper Bilal Raja and opener Dan Lockwood made 242 of Bristol United Banks’ 270-4 against Hanham 2nds. Raja made 137 from 105 balls, and Lockwood hit 105 with the pair putting on  234 for the second wicket. Muhammad Suhaib then took 3-18 as Hanham were bowled out for 141.

Bristol Eagles are the new leaders of the Sixth Division after beating previously undefeated Bristol New Eleven by five wickets. They went past Bristol New Eleven’s 236 with 13 balls to spare, with Yashin R top-scoring with 77. Bino Joly was Bristol New Eleven’s top run-getter with 56 while Abhi Nair took 3-22 for Bristol Eagles, who hold a four-point advantage over Bristol New Eleven at the top of the table.

Milo Edwards made 112 for Stapleton 2nds, but it was in a losing cause as his side were beaten by 92 runs by Knowle 3rds. Chasing 333-8, Stapleton were dismissed in the 35th over. Earlier, Louix Birkinshaw had taken 4-59 for Stapleton.
