Bourton Vale Secure Promotion With Final Ball Victory

Number 11 Will Lockey hit the final ball of the 50th over for four as Bourton Vale clinched the Gloucestershire Division title in the West of England Premier League in dramatic style.

Chasing Langford’s 243-8, the scores were level before Lockey’s heroics, his only scoring shot. The always influential left-arm spinner Max Shepherd had earlier taken 3-37 to help restrict Langford before opener Oliver Lockey made 51 for Bourton, who are still unbeaten in the league with two games remaining. Tom Stevens, who had made 54 for Langford, then took 3-27 while Jack Brown claimed 3-43.

Mohit Kale produced a fine all-round performance as Cheltenham 2nds continued their recent improvement with a six-wicket win over Aston Ingham. Kale took 5-25 as Aston Ingham were bowled out for 174 before making 85 from 71 balls as Cheltenham reached their target in 26.1 overs. Earlier, Ed Bressington top-scored for Aston Ingham with 58.

Jack Groves was another all-rounder to enjoy a fine game, scoring 91 in his side’s 247-8 and then taking 3-29 as Stroud were bowled out for 176. Skipper Josh Colwell took 4-27 while earlier Stroud’s Angus Gegg claimed 3-47.

Gloucestershire batter Kamran Dhariwal smashed 123 from 84 balls as Bristol topped 400 against Thornbury in Premier One. The 21-year-old hit 17 fours and two sixes and shared in a third-wicket partnership of 187 with opener Nic Halstead Cleak, who made 106 from 107 balls, as Bristol reached 401-6. Skipper Louie Shaw (52 not from 30 balls) and Jordan Fullager (50 from 19 balls) also piled on the runs before Shaw (3-30) helped bowl out the visitors for 254 in 44.4 overs. Cani Gunaratnam was their top scorer with 52.

Dumbleton, who beat Painswick by 122 runs in the County Cup final on Sunday, remain two points clear at the top of the table after Tom Kelly led them to a four-wicket win over Potterne. The Australian made 109 from 101 balls as his side chased down Potterne’s 196 with seven overs to spare. Angus Catto and Finn Brabham had earlier been the pick of Dumbleton’s attack with 4-54 and 3-33 respectively.

Opener Max Dunne hit 97 from 94 balls, and Ben Johnstone walloped an unbeaten 79 from 59 balls, but Frocester still came up short against second-placed Bridgwater, who made 349-7. Frocester were dismissed for 314 with one ball remaining, and the defeat leaves them in fourth place, 18 points off the pace with two games remaining.

Twyford House ran out Congresbury’s last two batters to clinch a remarkable tie in Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset. Twyford House had made 251 with Parikshith Sanjeev Shetty (60), Nicholas Chantler (60) and Elliot Bevan (50) their main run-getters.

Chris Bolton (3-45) took a couple of important wickets for Twyford House in the closing overs, but it was Jonty Taylor who was entrusted with the final six balls, and he was the player on the spot as Congresbury’s last two wickets fell.

Ahmed Syed took 5-37 as Clevedon were bundled out for 90 in 34.4 overs by Golden Hill, who made 279-9. Daaryoush Ahmed (72) and Max Davis (61 not out) were their leading runscorers.

Downend opener Callum Loud hit 17 fours and six sixes in his 88-ball 122 to help his side reach 394-8 against Taunton St Andrews. Matthew Jackson (61) and Mohamed Nawazish Jezuli (53) also made useful runs before Taunton St Andrews were bowled out for 286. Masoor Khan took 3-27, and Ross Robbins claimed 3-55.

An opening partnership of 142 was the platform for Cheltenham’s 78-run win over Marshfield in Premier 2 Glos/Wilts. Nemika Benthola made 102, and Tinotenda Mutekwa contributed 78 before skipper James Boyle crashed a quickfire 75 in their 339-5 after being put into bat. Marsfield were dismissed in 45.5 overs with Jack Cherrington taking 3-58 and Nirvaan Jain claiming 3-62.

Chipping Sodbury enjoyed a 60-run win over Purton after posting 310-7. Henry Rendell made 76 and Rohan Wijeratne 73 from 50 balls before Purton, who were chasing a revised target of 272 in 40 overs, were bowled out at the start of the 31st over with Anthony D’Sa collecting 3-47.

Bishopston are champions of Bristol & North Somerset after their 95-run win over Brislington. Saurabh Rawat was again in fine form, making 114 from 79 balls as his side reached 291-8. Dominic Hooper made 66 while Arthur Harman took 5-51 for Brislington before they were dismissed in 49.4 overs, with Lawrence Cook picking up 3-23.

New ball bowler Urfan Malik snapped up 5-37 as Downend 2nds were shot out for 93 by Bristol Pakistanis, who had made 308-7. Saqib Imran was their top scorer with 50 while Joseph Tolman took 4-45 for Downend.

Rushabh Yadav and Neiland Cadogan both made 91 in the Bristol West Indian Phoenix total of 316 against Knowle, who were dismissed for 271, with Felix Wright taking 4-44.
